well, assuming you're talking about the B16B, the HB would beat the celica (w/ equal drivers); its 187 to 180 plus its not hard to stay on big B16 cam plus it'd be lighter

oh wait, you're in canada...the canadian SiR is the Si down here, but i'd probably give the nod to the Civic still, it'd be close

It will be close. The advantage goes to the better driver...

Exactly I have a b18c in my hatch with type r cams, dc sport 4 into 1 header, aem cai, vafc, and almost no exhaust (Don't really drive the car).

And I raced a b16a hatch and blew its doors off I mean I like destroyed it but I don't think that the hatch was well driven.

Its the b20 hatches with the sir head u gotta watchout for.
All i gotta say is lightning.

ok, I'll enter this debate and say that I raced a civic hatchback with a b16 (si) motor. The guy only had i/h/e, some 15" volks, stripped interior, cf hood and one other passenger, whereas I was alone. At the time I was using my stock wheels, w/ stock tires (somewhat bald) and as far as mods, I had injen short ram intake, and TRD exhaust, and TRD SS. I also raced him w/ my soundsystem and all my interior, including my spare in my trunk. This was done at the illegals. We raced 3 times. The first race: I launched at 5k rpm and feathered and jumped a 3/4 car length within a 2 secs, at the end of 1st, I was 1 car lenght ahead, and by the end of 3rd, I managed to be 1 and half car lenghts ahead, so I give most credit to my launch on that one. Second run: I launch at 5k again and feather, but I ride the clutch a little long, but still manage to jump out 1/4 car length ahead and ended up beating him by 1 car length at the end of 3rd. By now, this guy is pissed, cuz he keeps on insisting on racing, even though I was about to leave, but he begged me to race one last time, I think it's cuz his gf was riding shot gun, anyhow 3rd run: I launch at 5k again, and feather and get a good launch and jump out half a car length ahead, by the end of first, he's gained 1/4 car length, at the end of second, I'm still 1/4 car length, in third, i'm ahead by a mere 3 ft. and I flash hazards cuz the end of the road was becoming twisty. If we finished to the end of 4th, I think he would have passed me, or at least caught up. Hope this helps.

I had a B16A JDM Spec engine in my Civic. So I'll tell you from experience. Stock for Stock, the Celica will win. But if you raced my Civic, I would have whoop the Celica. But that's because the Civic is pure drag car, daily driven with no A/C, fiberglass hood, removed seats and removed other stuff. With accessories up the ying yang such as;

ACT Stage 3 Clutch 6 Puck, enlighten flywheel, AEM Timing Gear, DC Headers, Greddy Trust Exhaust, HKS Intake, MSD 6AL, NKG Spark Plug Wires, Denso Iridium Platinum Spark Plugs, Tokico Gas Shocks, OBX Coilovers, 205/50/15 and Mickey Thompson Drag Slicks 225/14's, Engine Swap JDM Spec B16A, GS-R ECU, GS-R Transmission, GS-R Axles, VTEC/Fuel Controller, Bigger and Slotted Disc Brakes and Bigger Brake Pads in the front.

Why did I trade it in? Because the wife don't like my car having no A/C. Oh well, all that hard work down the drain.

I raced a couple of Si's on the street, and since I know how to drive I beat them. But as for high speed racing, the Si has no chance. As for 1/4 mile run, it all depends on the driver but I'm leaning more towards the Celica, not being biased.

I think with equal drivers it's going to be really close, especially since those cars usually have I/H/E with the swap. It also depends on what generation of Civic. If it's a 92-95 hatch, those are about 100lbs lighter so they're fractionally quicker.

If we're talking about a GSR hatch, forget about it.

Well.. the real Civic SiR is only at Japan..
I've seen the Race between both Stock stock...
SiR wins... it pulls away pretty good....
Those Civic with Type-R (means SiR) engines are FAST..... ^^
I have the video clip of the race... profession drivers.. so it's an equal match....
Later....

Are we talking about the old civic hatchbacks that weigh 2100 lbs? Which motor is this? VTEC 1.6 right? Anyway I think the civic will win. They should hit 14s pretty easily with that set up.

the SIR he's referring to is the US SI...the 160bhp 111lb/ft torque one... and hatch is the 97+ one

SiR = Si in the US
SiR not equal to Civic Type R
USA Si against Celica GT-S(both stock and equal driver) = Celica GT-S will win
Civic Hatch with Si(or SiR) engine against Celica GT-S(both stock and equal driver) = Civic Si Hatch will win but not by much

I thought the US version was weaker. I just remember people talking something about this. It was kinda confusing.

He resurrected another thread that was 5 years old.

I'm not a noob in this site. I originally registered here back in year 2000 but I forgot my password and the email that I used to register here, so I re-registered eventhough I don't have my GT-S anymore :)
