Interest in Carbon Fiber Engine plastic replacements:
(Valve cover, Ecu cover, Fuse Box Cover, Small relay cover, Passenger Side Engine Cover, Front Engine Cover)

Here's info about the Carbon Fiber engine pieces:

I want to gauge interest on carbon fiber engine pieces. These will be Full carbon fiber pieces, not fiberglass reinforced. The prices will be similar to IPT pieces, but the quality will be just as good if not better, and the customer service will definitely be better :p:

here's what Kenny Heiser has to say about making the pieces and the reason for the high prices:

"Yes we could make them but the price is not gonna be any cheaper than IPT . There is a reason IPT set is that price It takes expensive epoxy resins to make a "underhood" peice because of the heat etc ,And CF has to be used Completelly No 'fiberglass" reinforcing to save cost . Fiberglass Will warp like hell under the hood . Plus the cost of trimming all the peices after they come out of the mold ads to cost ,since a few of the peices are quite intricate ."

"I have the Full set Of IPT CF peices for my GTS . We could make molds off them for you and make parts but I highley doubt you will be able to sell less then IPT & still make $$$ off them . After the molds are made you have them made how ever you like ,C-one style CF weave ,Karbon Kevelar weave ,colored kevlar CF weave ,silver CF ,etc ,etc . Molds could be any whare from $3000 - $5000+++ in materials and labor I would have to get a estimate for exact costs . You dont want Cheap molds , other wise will parts will get worse & worse over time and pretty soon you will have to make new ones again .."


So, if you go cheap, plan on buying them again in a couple of years. If you go with me, you've got them for life. Plus mine may come with a cool sticker to put on the valve cover :cool:


Basically, if you guys can show me interest, I can have these made in any form mentioned here, but the price will be about the same as IPT.

IPT's parts are also made in a autoclave instead of standerd vacuum forming . A auto clave cost like $30k plus , most places dont have access to one. Wet lay up parts with Vacuum forming will probablly have alot of little impefections like pin holes ,voids , etc . The IPt parts are like perfect finish next to Zero imperfections . Alot of people dont understand the cost of good quality materials either . Cheap polyester resins will warp ,discolor ,& possible delaminate , .They will basicaly turn to **** under the hood exspecially with fiberglass reinforsement . A good epoxy resin can cost like 20x as much as polyester . The only other way to really make these parts would be dry infusion (the way my work would probablly go about making them) ,thats whare CF is layed into the mold dry with no resin . The part is then Vacuum formed and resin is injected into the part ,the vacuum pulls the resin threw all the CF which makes a really nice part with next to zero imperfections like IPT's ....

It would be nice to get a set of engine covers that match the weave on your C-one hood wouldent it guys ?????

This forum is kinda useless to judge how many people will buy the part once its produced . Once people see one finished its a diffrent story . Plus nobody even comes in this forum ,look how low the veiws are on each thread ???

A full replacement CF center counsil USDM or JDM can not be made because of the back of the peice . I'm not really sure how Jway83 was planning on making those but I never said I could make them . The only way to have a CF center counsil is to Wrap the existing one & that is costlly .

i don't have pics of the interior pieces. i'm not even sure yet what can be made and what can't (i didn't know the center console can't be made), so I'm just judging interest to see if it's worth spending the money to get quotes on this stuff and molds made.

Justin, sorry, but I'm going to have to drop off the list for a full GTS CF kit. I had no idea that the price would be close to $900. I was thinking IPT sold them for like $600, I don't know why. :D I am still in for some pieces, but I don't want to commit to certain ones just yet. I'll get back to you.

So your planning on going through the trouble of making the cf engine plastics
for them to be about the same price as IPT? Dont get me wrong, I would love to
see other people make them. But your not gonna see too many customers if they are the same price. Especially when we can get them wrapped for about 400-500.
