i'm pretty sure none of you know me yet... i'm mostly at celica.net i just started posting here... anyway my name is daniel and i'm 17.. i have a 2000 toyota celica gt-s and yes it is sports-shift :gap: .. well i just bought an HKS Hyper Cat-Back from a friend from celica.net and i just got it put on yesterday morning.. i love the cat-back, it's not to loud, just the right size, looks good... it's perfect... however it is a little to quite... maybe it's cause i just got it put on yesterday? i heard that hks hyper cat-backs are not to loud anyway... i was wondering is there any way to make my cat-back a little louder it's not for show off purposes... if there is something that could make the cat-back a little louder how much would it cost and where could i get it? thanks in advance
P.S - try to keep it at a reasonable price lol i'm only 17 ya know..

Are you sure that it is a cat back and not an axle back exhuast? I always thought that the only cat back exhaust out for the Celica was the Kazuma and that all the rest of them hooked up from the rear axle and replaced the muffler and piping from there on up.
Anyway, if it is an axle back, you could take it to an exhuast shop and have them cut the resonator off, that should make it louder. Or you could experament with cutting off the muffler that came on your HKS exhuast and putting a louder universal on one in its place.

yeah its axle back.......i had the chamber wall removed inside of the resonator (the primary sideways muffler)......i originally had a problem, it was cracked so i had it removed....open heart surgery style....some shops wont do it for you because they can get in trouble, but it should cost about 40-70 to have it done.....gives it a deeper more agressive sound, you wont really hear much till you are WOT.

Question - if i got the chamber wall removed inside of the resonator will it be street legal?

CrazyD, you need to modify your webshots account to allow permission for anyone to view the pictures in there. Right now, it won't let me in because it say's that I am "not authorized to view this page" ;)
I think that it would still be street legal. I mean, the resonator is there to reduce sound levels, not to reduce emmisions or anything like that, so you should still be legal with your emmisions and everything. I don't think that it would make it much louder than it is now, so you should still be legal there. It would probably be cheaper to have them cut the resonatior off and just weld a pipe in its place. My advise would be to talk to a muffler shop and ask them these questions.

well the resonator.....has some sound dampening as well as emissions capability, form the looks of whats inside of it.....i was given the choice to cut the sucker off, or fix it, i choose to fix it for 2 reasons.........A) what if you ever wanted to sell it, and B) i cant stand that rice buzz sound, and i'd rather my exhaust be queit for the most part till i decide to race.....and i do highway driving pretty often i wouldnt want to pop my eardrums

yea i'm thinking about modifying the resonator like boyracer said because of his reasons... i was thinking the same thing.. i don't want to cut it off and then i can't sell the car later on... and if i cut it off when the car is inspected for pricing they'll prolly take like a whole **** load off for that... i'll see what the muffler shops will tell me... if they tell me that there is a way to modify the resonator and not take anything out besides the chamber wall thingy then i'll do it... thanks for help again :)

Of course, on the other hand, if you gut out the insides you will need to replace the resonsator if you don't like it, or want to sell the car, or whatever. If you cut it off, the resonator will still be in tact and you can just have it welded back on later ;)
But you should talk to a local muffler shop. I'm sure that this isn't the first time someone wanted to do this to their car. They can probably give you some good advise on the subject.
