View Full Version : Once again an AFR/tuning question.. AFR at WOT and 3/4 throttle but same boost-level.

Hey guys

I finally got wideband AFR logging working with my emanage, so I can safely do my streettuning. Just drive and log, than analyze and modify fuelmap.

What I notice now is the following..
I am still working on the injector map (airflow meter hotwire related).
I get to a point where my revs are let's say 4000 rpm and airflow voltage is about 4.

I can be at this point under WOT, but I can also get to this point at 3/4 throttle. I got it running a steady 12.5 at WOT now, but when I only press 3/4 it's running leaner (14 - 14.5).
In my opinion this is because at WOT the ecu goes to open-loop and throws in more fuel than at 3/4 throttle. I am trying to smooth this out by adding fuel in the airflow-map which is TPS/rpm-based.

What I wonder now is the following.. Should I always try to get a 12.5 AFR when boosting or can it be a bit leaner when not at WOT ?

btw, this will nog be any different when running the injector-map on pressure-sensor...

Since you are running a piggyback you will never get partial throttle in closed loop to be 12.5, the ecu will fight you and win.

In WOT the emanage's settings aren't overridden by the ecu, that's why you can tune it properly.

You will need a standalone to have perfect partial throttle maps.

hmm, that's what I figured..

I had my yearly smog-test last monday and at 2800 rpm my afr was way too rich..
a steady 2800 rpm made it run at 12.8 afr which was too rich for the test. This was becuase my settings were making it too rich and thus overriding the ecu-settings..

so basically what you are saying is when accelerating I just shouldn't accelerate on partial throttle :)

Maybe you can consider some kind of vacuum switches to get past this. I think it is done by activating a fake "stoich" o2 signal to make your ECU happy whenever boost is sensed and your e-manage boost map takes over tuning partial throttle afr.

That's the way the stock ECU likes it.
