I've searched and the question still remains....What is the BEST HID kit and where can I get it?

I want:
--white lights with a blue/purple tint (blue preferred)
--Easy direct plug-in bulbs, no ghetto rigged install
--high quality

I found that people have ordered from the following 2 websites for direct plug-in HID kits. If you know of others please let me know.

autolamps (http://www.autolamps-online.com/gasdischarge/index.htm)

Advance Racing (http://www.advance-r.com/hid_conversion_kits.htm)

Any recommendations from your experience would be appreciated. I'd like to order as soon as possible.

(sorry if you think this is a repeat post but from reading old posts there never seemed to be a definitive answer about which HID kit was the BEST direct plug-in HID kit)

thanks

I can't speak of Advance Racing, but the Autolamps Online kit is truely a plug in kit without the need to modify anything. I currently have it on my car.

if you want the blue/white I would go with the Philips H.I.D. kit. or you could pick the one on Advance Racing website that looks blue/white. I have the crystal white and it's purple at night but turn those suckers on during the day and it's looks like pink lemonade. Hope this helps :)

if you want blue/white, then get the Autolamps Online kit, and spend a little more for the Philips Ultinon 6000k bulb upgrade thingie.

celwin: did you need to modify ANYTHING when you installed your kit? like the wire clip things that hold the bulb down? and how is output and beam pattern?

I modded nothing at all. The output is blue/white with a tinge of purple if looked at from an angle. From a drivers perspective the beam pattern is uniform on both sides. I've never seen the beam pattern from another drivers point of view. I'd be interested to know how it looks to oncomming drivers.

Yeah I installed it myself. It's very simple. All instructions are included.

pokgai: I have the 4100k Kit. At the time I bought it the 6000k bulbs were not available.

I have the K2/Vision Crystal White and I got it from Advance-r.net and yes, they are purple and pink in the day. Kinda not what I was looking for but fortunately, I could change out the bulbs to be blue-white. So it's all good.

Celwin: It's interesting that autolamps doesn't require you to use piano wire like Advance. Do your lights shake at all? Is there anything about them that you are dissatisfied with? What do you think the improvement of the 6000K over the 4100k is? And last, what brand does autolamps sell? All Phillips or is Ultinon another brand name?

Borpph & ToyoGT: Other than color is there anything you are are dissatified with? Such as light shake, beam pattern, or the piano wire? And according to Advance's website they are out of the blue-white Vision bulbs.

ToyoGT: you also said get the Phillips Kit. Is that the plug and play get from autolamps?

The bulbs are secured (no shaking)
I'm 100% satisfied with them
The 6000k bulbs puts out a bluer light output than the 4100k bulbs.
Auolamps uses Phillips components in their kits. I think the Ultinon term is just a marketing label for the 6000k Kit. I'm not certain though.

ok, I've decided on the autolamps after all my research and their prompt customer replies. In summary the main reason is that they are Phillips and that means quality.

But I can't decide between the 4100k and the 6000k. I'm not sure if I need the added blue light, plus the 6000k might get me in trouble with cops. The difference in price is $499 vs $579, so only $80.

What's everyone's opinion??

I have no shake whatsoever and the advance-r.net website does say they are out of blue-white but I talked to Kevin there and he said they just don't stock it, that they would just have to order it to get it.

Go with the 6000k. There IS a difference between the 4100k and the 6000k, but if you don't have the cash just buy the 4100k. I know because I have seen them on Integras. Seriously if I were you I'd roll with the Philips HID kit. If i had to go back and do it all over again I'd get that. The purple is nice but I'm bored with it :( And besides I want to be able to turn them on during the day but can't because mine look like pink lemonade. hehe

6000K actually have less output than 4100K. I forgot the exact lumen specs, but I think the 4100K were around 3000 ish lumens, while the 6000K were around 2500 lumens or something around that area. 6000K is just to obtain the really white/blue look, with a decrease in output. For the most output, get the 4100K. That is what I would get. Cheaper too.

Also with the autolamps kit, celwin said he did no modification to his stock bulb-retaining clips, versus the K2/Vision kits which require making a new/bending the clips.

Does anybody want to sell me their USED autolamps online kit???

Here's what I got back from autolamps about the output of their two HID kits.

"Hello Aaron
I am sorry I have not answered your previous messages as yet, I will go back
to them and answer directly.
Correct the actual light output of the 6000K is 20% less than the 4100K
which is 3200lm.
Thanks for your continued interest.
Regards
Janet"

I heard McCulloch HID's are good, makes HIDs for a lot of JDM cars. Check out the website, good info about HID there too.

I just installed a set of 7000k (bluish-white) HIDs in my car. It's called the HID PLUS system by SPW, and comes with Hella ballasts. I got mine in a GP, but I've recently seen the same system on ebay for a good price, and they're really nice! The lights on my GS400 are actually better tho, because they're whiter, but these are still much better than stock.

I just saw the K2 6000k's and I was not impressed... It's a hint of purple, so it looks pink... But my friend did jsut get them so maybe in time they will get more purple, but it was not what I was looking for... Maybe 7000k is what I want...:)
