View Full Version : Mixed reaction to loud Celica from bystanders

So I'm on my way to work just cruising along about 35mph and I see these little kids (all boys) waiting for the school bus. One of them points at my car and then the other three turn around and stare. So I drop it to 2nd and mash the throttle. The AEM/TRD combo does its magic and the kids are jumping up and down and cheering. But then I look and about 100 feet farther down the road is a little girl waiting with her grandmother for the bus. She utterly terrified and the grandmother is clutching her in a protective manner. I was LMAO!!

Same thing happened to me today, 4 kids were riding their bikes, they gave me a thumbs up I slapped it into second, the injen/ hks hi-power combo roared loud and the kids were all like "**** yeah buddy" then I looked to the left and there was this elderly couple holding each other, well one of them was on the old peoples bike (the 3 wheel scooter thingy) and the other was just holdong on for dear life.

It's funny how a loud noise makes such a difference to people's fear reactions.

You could be flying down the road at 220 km/hr and nobody would be terrified if you were making no noise.

Add 120db to the scene, and you've got people ****ting their pants.

When my girlfriend is in the passenger seat, she'll say nothing about me driving too fast until I hit LIFT. No matter how fast I'm going, once I hit LIFT she yells at me about how crazy I'm driving. It's all sound.

its awesome when you drive past cars with your windows down and its all like waaaaaaaa in lift. people get freaked out when that happens and they have their windows down.
moms or dads usually pull their kids in close and give me a bad look.

I agree,There is nothing more satisfying than people breaking their neck to try to see the car that just whaaaaammmm right past them. I like to cruz around 40 mph and wait for someone to try to pass and drop it in 2 gear.by bye

I love having a loud car, When ever someone is stupid in a parking lot and just sits there maybe talking to someone in the parking lot I just rev up my engine, and they are like oops and start to drive, Last week I drove my moms car (2000 Alero) and tried to do the same thing and the people just sat their, Theirs just something about that sound,

I also love keeping my car in 1st and 2nd in the neighborhood, I will be doing maybe 15 - 20 MPH, and their are people all over screeming SLOW DOWN, I just laugh at them.

bah, I hate people. I was going like 20 in a 30, just accelerating. The fact that w/ my GT (yes, only a gt but still), I go up to like 6500 all the time 6800, whatever, people like stare at u like ur so disrespectful. And then, in my neighborhood (rich area), mom's drive their minivans ****ing 50 and no one peepz at them, but I go through 15 in a 25 in like first gear, and god, look at that kid speeding. especially the look from the guy who drinks alot, I want to shoot him.

Having driven a GTS with this combo, I didn't find the sound all that magical. My friend didn't sound much different from the Civics as he pulled into my neighborhood. Just the AEM sounds nice. The TRD sounds rice. Too buzzy.

Yeah guys.. I have to totally say that its fun as hell to scare the heck out of people that are on the sidewalk or driving with their windows down.. Just over this past weekend there were a bunch of HS kids admiring their cars close to the side of the street so I dropped it and probably scared the he11 out of most of em.. a few of them jumped onto the curb and kept look as I went on by.. lol... I love summer :)

i love doing that **** to high schools too. i never liked the idea of high school kids driving somewhat-nice cars who didn't spend the last 4-5 years working/driving cars because of family exposure or something. and they REALLY can't drive, jeez

also, the TRD Exhaust isn't buzzy at all. i had it on my car, and i loved it. you can barely hear it over 3500rpm, it's like turning the bass on your car up a notch. below 3500rpm it's a nice deep rumble. even my MOM liked it when she drove my car around.

i'm usually in the "bystanders" position when something loud passes by.. my lil brother and his buddies are always like "slow down, this is a f0ckin neigborhood!" all in unison (just to get some reaction from them -which usually is laughter] to every "racer" type car :chuckles:

Yes, but keep in mind that even the Civic kids think their car sounds fine because they are sitting on the inside of it. We all know how buzzy it is because we hear it from the outside.

My friend followed me in his Civic HB w/GSR motor to his house one time and I went by an innocent bystander in some car with his windows rolled down. I was in lift with the silencer off my Kazuma and my friend said the driver held his hands up to both his ears and looked like he was screaming. Hahahahahahaha!!! That Kazuma's fu**ing loud! Gotta love it!

nah, he's cool. I've seen him on other forums responding to Celica things and he actually back our car up sometimes. A point he brought up on the clubRSX forum when they were "discussing" the Celica GT-S was that the Celica so far has posted faster times in the quarter mile then any RSX. He wasn't talking stock for stock, but overall. He said that he has yet to see a RSX post a 14.1 time like a Celica has.

I like 'em, he is a pretty objectionable guy (cept when the topic is about ITRs :) ) :chuckles: j/k

I personally like having yakko here as well as other non celica owners.

It keeps things in line. That way we don't have stories every week about Celica GT 's beating c5 vettes and stupid crap like that.

Look at how pissed off the clubrsx guys get when we come there and knock them down a few levels when they get to big headed..... I mean, if it kept up over there, those people would believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that the RSX is faster stock than the WRX... and that the Celica is a 16 second car.....

I say welcome to all non celica owners.

My comment had nothing to do with the Celica. Please read the post again. It is simply referring to the poor sound of the TRD exhaust. Even the owner of the car made the same remarks.

I do the same thing at stop lights when people aren't looking and the light turns green. It gets them most of the time.

Have any of you seen the toyota add on TV with the old guy that yells at a parked celica and tell it to slow down?

I have the trd, injen combo.Ive heard this inside ,and out side the car.in and outa lift.im always getting complemented on the way my celi sounds.its mine among others that its the best sounding 4 cyl on the market.nice deep roar until 6300 rpm then that bitch screams. now ive heard the greddy ehaust, personaly i think it sounds to much like a civic. But ,then again that is my opinion.

Here's an interesting question for yakko.. How does he think a Type R sounds w exhaust? prob not ricey or buzzy at all right? Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.. kinda what message boards are about isnt it?

Volume isn't the problem with the TRD. Yes, it is quiet compared to a straight pipe or other exhausts. The issue is the buzzy frequency it resonates.

I haven't heard many Type Rs with exhausts. Most of the exhausts I have heard on other Integras sound terrible. The only Type R I remember with an exhaust was this 2000 with a dual muffler system from Japan. The thing looked terrible. It had two mufflers and two exhausts pipes about 6 inches apart in the middle of the rear bumper. Both exhausts hung well below bumper level. I don't know about performance, but the thing was quieter than stock when the guy drove it between stoplights. I never heard it race.

I really like the stock exhaust on the Type R. 30% more free flowing than the GSR one, nice look, and it has a nice quiet sound at all speeds. The only exhausts I've even considered are the Comptech catback and the Mugen Twin Loop. The Comptech I've heard on my friend's GSR, and it's pretty quiet and pretty deep. The Twin Loop is supposed to be quieter than that, but at $1000 retail, they aren't that common, so I haven't heard one.

Exhausts are mostly a visual and sonic modification over performance. This is even more true with the Type R. The stock muffler is almost aftermarket spec. As a result, you spend a lot of money for very little increase in performance over the one you have. I'll wait until the muffler is the weak link in my system before I drop money on one. Right now, the cat is still the biggest problem. Hope that answered the question.

yakko, that was henry's type R. it was a JDM style exhaust. his is really a show car in that respect...not my style, but whatever he likes is his busines, you know?

honestly i agree with you on the TRD...it doesnt have a big rear canister like alot of the other exhausts have, and if youll notice by disconnecting the canister on apex or tanabe, it sounds really buzzy.

all the exhausts have canisters to remove the buzz and make that really nice "smooth" sound.

my car ran straight pipe for a while....it was loud and scary and v8 sounding...but i didnt like it.

i put on a muffler because i dont really like racing on the street (prefer autocross and parking lot "autocross") but those canisters do more than look ricey...they make you sound less ricey.

and i agree....integras generally sound AWFUL with exhauts. its like diarrhea. however, turbo integras sound great because the turbo almost acts as a second muffler removing the resonating buzz that most "rice rocketS" are charactherized by.

Yep, that's the guy. I haven't seen his Teg since right after he did the JDM front end conversion and the CF hood. He seemed really proud that his exhaust was from Japan. He seemed like a JDM fanboy to me, but I don't really know him.

wow, now THAT'S what an exhaust should sound like (if the recording sounds like the real thing). Right up there with my friend DSM exhaust, not a hint of high frequency noise, all bass rumble.
