My parents are feeding me this BS about a 2002 mustang with a manual transmission costing more on insurance... is this true? If so how much more?

They just don't want me in a manual I think...

Thanks for the help guys.

MT is not going to cost more. Insurance companies don't look at Manual vs. Auto. A 300 HP car is still going to have 300 HP no matter what type of tranny it has. GT's will usually run high on insurance because what is under the hood, not the tranny.

Are you fairly positive on this cause I don't wanna call my parents liars and then be wrong...

Cause statistically it makes sense that your gramma won't be driving MT but rather a guy racing it up at the track...

The tranny doesn't matter, insurance companies know how a car with 300hp will be drivin so of course the rate will be higher.

Well it's gonna be the 6 cyl.

I'll call their bluff then thanks guys.

I'm pretty sure when you apply for insurance they don't even ask for the tranny... like when you get a quote.

For those who know VIN numbers, does a VIN say if it is auto or manual?

That's a pathetic reason to not get a Mustang. My parents are feeding me this BS about a 2002 mustang with a manual transmission costing more on insurance... is this true? If so how much more?

Why not go GT?

I work in software for an insurance company. There are no differences in mtx and at rates.

If anything, the AT would be more costly to insure because they're more expensive to replace.

Politely, and informed, go to them with why they should let you buy a different car in the same price range. A used Celica is a decent deal. safe, great on gas. Or RSX as well. Forgein reliability cant be matched.

Eh, not according to the latest data from JD Power. Foreign reliability was matched and beaten on 3 year old cars.

The Celica is the 3rd highest car in the country to insure.

Too bad American business isn't doing well. The quality may be improving, but GM has cut over half of its labor force and both manufacturers are offering employee prices on cars---that's an all-time low for incentives.
