New Tires and Rims

Well I ended up going with Pro Racer GN+ 17x7.5 with a +35 Offset for the wheels, and tires I got Yokohama AVS ES100 215/40-17. I like the look but unfortunatly I didnt realize that so much of my wheel well would now show on my undropped car. Is dropping it my next move? I will post some pics tomorrow...thanks everyone.

Im wondering if I went with the wrong size of tire since not only is the wheel well showing more on the top of the tire, but on the front and back too...

i think u should have went with a 225/45-17 tire.... but 215/40 -17 works.

i definitely recommend 45 series because it helps to protect your rims. otherwise watch out for the pot holes....

small tires suck, a buddy curbed my rim, 35 series tire, Im going with bigger 40 or 45 series next time

I've hit some pretty big potholes with my 40 series and haven't bent any rims... maybe I'm just lucky.

I've got 40s on my 18's, so I think 45s would have been better. I mean seeing how the stock tires are 50s, ever inch added to the rim, drops the tire height an increment of 5. I mean, if your going by stock tire height. But, then again, everyone has their likes/dislikes.

45's on an 18" wheel is WAY to big, i had a 225/40/18 and that was big but tolerable. 45 series on an 18 would look ridiculous unless its like a 195mm wide tire which i doubt it was MAYBE you could get away with a 205/45/18.. i dunno tho that would still be huge. i could be wrong, perhaps im just not understanding what you're saying

what doyou mean every inch of wheel drops the tire height by an increment of 5? thats too general, you need to consider the width of the tire as well. but even if you went by your logic, going with a stock 15" wheel with a 50 series how do you figure a 45 series tire for an 18" rim?

I've had 35's, 40's and now 45's. 35's cracked two wheels, 40's were a better ride, and now that I have 45's on my 17's I feel totally protected, and the ride is great. :)

he means you dont need to get the thicker sidewall of 45.. just lower it. even if you get the 45's the wheel gap wont be as much (the difference in sidewall being what 10 mm?) but it will still look very high. might as well just lower it. you're gonna be buying new tires in a few months anyways

I get the drop on Thursday, this weekend calipers will be painted.

Suggestions? My original plan was painting them red...but now that my valve stems are blue, I could either paint them red to match the calipers or paint the calipers blue, black, or silver. I will probably choose one of the latter, but opinions wanted. =)

What are you doing with these tires?? I have put mine through some hellacious use and 30,000 miles of driving and I am willing to bet I will get 10-15,000 mor emiles out of them. I think they are excellent tires for the money. I don't know how you guys are eating them up so fast.

The problem with that is that this is a hard tire to come by and to my knowledge I know of only one company making a tire in that size as of right now and that is Nitto whom is not exactly known for the best tires.

ahh i was under the impression that you said YOU should have gotten 45's on your 18's. my bad.

and one more thing, if you wanna stay closer to the stock diameter 215/40/17 is your best bet. people only usually get 45 series tires coz its thicker and you'll be less likely to bend your rims, oh and probably less road noise.

I would definatly go 40s like you did. Just drop it a lil now! :) Either drop it a lil like TRD springs of other brands with resonable drop. If you want a bigger drop, go with the struts at the same time. It 'll kills you struts otherwise! This would be more expensive but definatly a better suspension setting!

If you want to be safe with your rims, stick with 16s! IMO, you definatly dont want to go with bigger wheels than stock. 17s already affect acceleration on our torqueless engine, dont make it worse!

tellme about it.. i went with 18's with a 225/40/18.. and it became dog slow compared to having 225/35/18...

i went down to 17's and looked for the closest thing to the stock diameter which is 215/40/17
