Ok guys, I got help with wheels and tires, now I need to drop my car pretty bad. I was thinking of just doing a TRD drop, but is this not the best case? I do not want to spend $1700 on a drop, more like around $1k. Is that not so? Any recomendations? I am even thinking of letting the dealer install, since I have no idea where else to take my car to do such a thing or who to trust. Any help would be appreciated. I also am thinking of doinf a 2" drop...what are the pro and cons on the amount of the drop? Thanks!
Edit: I have 17" wheels-35 offset, 215/40 tires...pics today on my wheel thread. I do not have a kit.

It has a lot to do if you are planning on getting a body kit, and which one? I have gone from eibach sportlines (2" drop) with gts rims and a trd kit, Then i went to tein s-techs (1.4" drop) w/ 17's on trd kit and then i got the kam front bumper and i am scraping here and there due to driveways that are so steep. I'm goign to be going to TRD springs which are about 1-1.2" drop and am going to be getting 18's. If you think tein s-techs are a possibility for you pm me so i can keep you in mind when i get my trd.
As far as ride quality a 2 inch drop will result in a rough ride and that is why i switched to tein. I think tein is a good drop and quality because it is not as bumpy. THe only reason why i'm switching is because of the steep inclines i have where i live.
Now fro price....
If you plan to get springs you might as well get new shocks/struts. A lot of ppl here will recommend KYB's (which i just ordered) if you get shocks/struts and springs you shouldn't spend more than 1000 do not go to toyota they will charge you about 400 bucks and take all day to do it. Look for a tire shop that does alignments, suspension work and you should be able to get it done faster and for about less the price.
Hope that helps.... i think i covered most of it.

Ah ok...cuz Toyota just called me and said for about $700 they would drop it and that is without replacing anything! Talking to them they sound as clueless as I do though, so that sucks.
I am honestly not really looking to put on a body kit anytime soon. The reason I want a drop is because I have to much wheel well showing now that I went with 17's and lower profile tire. I am going to post pics this evening when I get home how the car looks right now. I definitely want good handling and a smooth ride, and will do whatever that takes to get it done, but I also dont want to spend thousands since I am not a street racer nor am I into having my celica look like a show car. But I do want it to stand out and make it look really nice and clean.

Just by reading what you want out of a drop, I would go with tein s-techs for the following reasons....
1. The drop is not extreme like the eibach sportlines (2") drop It will give you a nice drop with 17's. I don't know what you like but I personally like the BMW drop... I like how the wheel is right at the fender. It looks clean! The eibach sportlines will probably make your wheels tuck under the fender.
2. Teins have a much better ride quality than the sportlines. With sportlines your shocks will go out real fast resulting in you spending loads of money just to get them replaced and installed frequently.
3. If you want a clean looking drop that gives you good handling without the harsh ride quality like sportlines go TEIN S-TECH'S.
That's my 2 cents on what i would do. And like i said before i will be having some for sale in a few weeks. They have only been on my car a few thousand miles which is nothing. I hope this info helps and if you have questions or whatever PM me.

Toyota quoting $700? A sucker is born every minute.
You can get the springs done for about $100-200.

i was going to say that you can install your springs by yourself with the help of a friend and some rented tools... but im gonna say if you didnt call BS at the dealer's $700 (or $1700 from the first post) that you should let someone else do it

yahoo.com. Click on local and enter your zip and what you are looking for. I dunno, automotive or something and call all the places. If they say no, ask them if they know anyone who can install them.

I have alot of good friends at the local dealership and have never been charged a ridiculous or absorbitant amount like is said on this website.
I would rather they touch my car than anyone else.

That's cuz you got friends there. You get the homeboy hookup. Most of us get bent over at the dealer... Artman, shop around for the install. Ask friends if they know any good shops. Springs/struts is relatively easy, and most any decent shop should be able to handle it. Find a good alignment shop though, cuz you're gonna need one after you replace the susp. Don't skimp on this. A good alignment should only run about 60.00 or so. Even at the dealer. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I am wondering though, the tires I got are 215/40's, and if you look at my car, I think there is to much wheel well showing, hence why i need a drop. However, the guys at my tire shop will let me swap them for 215/45's. Would you do it and would a 2" drop or so still be ok?

Just for kicks, I went to the dealer to see how much they would quote for installing the TRD springs and TRD STB on my Trix. They wanted $869, claiming it was a 12 hour job (10 for the springs + 2 hours for the STB). 2 hours just to turn 6 bolts that would have had to be removed anyway for the spring install. :chuckles: It also helps to have your own tool set (I didn't have one at the time). :)
Boosted2.0 did it in under 4 hours without air tools for $200. A reasonable price given how much a PITA the rears were (taking out plastics, the cargo area).
Bottom line: You will be raped at the dealer and the warranty means squat.

How does a 2" drop sound?

How does a 2" drop sound?
You'll definitely have to replace your shocks with aftermarket ones that can handle such a drop, otherwise you'll blow them guaranteed within 6-12 months. Maybe struts too. You'll also need a camber correction kit. I'd say anything more than 1.75" and you'll need to do these things.
Coilovers in lieu of springs and shocks have everything together and matched.
Not only that, you will have to drive like a grandma near driveways and speed bumps.

i had ground control coilvers on my car for 2 and a half years dropped well over 2" and my shocks where fine( almost dead) but they still lasted that long.

i have a 2in drop (sprint springs) and kyb gr2's. i think the ride is nice, a lil harder than when i had the trd springs but i like it. and i have the trd kit so i can pull into my drive way with no problem. i havent scraped on anything yet with this set up... im fine over speedbumps and all that.. but depending on the kit i would go with the teins.
