Some of you may think I'm getting ahead of myself, but I'm not. Anyways what are you guys thinking of running with your turbos? I don't know if I should get an expensive one or just some stock BOV from a turbo car.

i have Greddy S Type and its a nice BOV.. I wish it would be louder.. but in yer situation it would since it would be venting back to the atmosphere

larry is right i have the S type on my civic and it sounds sweet. it's not that loud but it has a special tone.

Isn't the GReddy BOV the one that sounds like those BOV's in F&F?

larryd
04-16-2002, 11:01 PM
not sure.. i know mine tends to whistle sometimes but that means it needs some adjustment :)

If you're not planning on running high boost, an aftermarket one is not necessary.

Exactly, most shops and people I've talked to recommend you should get a BOV if your car is boosting at least 7+ psi.

The Turbo XS BOV is Bada$$, I have a friend who just put one on his WRX. Thats my choice once i get a Turbo for the Celica...

Hmmm... I thought WRX uses a closed system ... and most Turbo XS is an open atmosphere BOV. Wouldn't that result in his car running w/ incorrect a/f ratio? Does he have the Turbo XS H34?
I also hear that most WRX owners go with an upgraded BPV rather than BOV.
Correct me if I'm wrong b/c I am often wrong.

I dont know off the top of my head which one it is but it is Def. a Turbo XS one. I can find out though but I do know they make one for the WRX.

The Apex I twin chamber blow off valve is really sweet...has blow off (noise) adjuster.

Blitz DD BOV... sounds the best in my opinion... makes that nice whoooooosh sound and not the bird-like whistle...

I love my HKS BOV. It's fun rolling up to the rigs and letting it blow :D

Seriously, mine sounds hella loud under WOT (about 11-16 psi, never had it over yet). At low boost or between shifts when not boosting, it flutters like a rattler :D

umm just checking but I saw an article about f@f in a maxpower uk edition magazine and the sound from the eclipse wasnt even an eclipse I believe it was a turboed integra the real eclipse from the movie was actually barely modded of course I coud just be speaking out of my as..... well anyways

MR2 Quik

You are correct. The Eclipse is a RS model, not even a turbo. It had just an I/E setup. The BOV you heard was from a turbo Integra. notice how all the cars sound the same :D

HKS SS BOV. If you want a nice loud sound with a little high pitched kind of wistle sound added to it.. then HKS is the one for you. However, i dont know how loud it will be if your only boosting 6-7 psi. HEHE

Also if when the time comes that you can finally turbo the celica and you need to recirculate the BOV and not vent to the atmosphere the HKS SS Bov CAN be recirculated.

Greddy is also a good blow off valve.

Those two i've heard very good reviews and never any complaints.

As for the other ones I don't really know. But i heard the Apex one sucks! Well for higher boost applications i heard. But for the celica it will probably be good enough.

You forgot to add the Turbo XS bovs in your poll. They have the Turbo XS RFL (Really Fugkin Loud) model which is just that. It's shaped like a horn.

As for stock bov from other turbod cars. I would prob. go with a 1g dsm bov.

You guys would love the sound of our RFL bov. It's awesome, there will be a video of one of our cars at the 1/4 mile track this last weekend on our site soon to give you an idea what it sounds like.

Turbo mag is doing a BOV shoot-out very soon, and loved our valve. They called us and said "holy $hit this thing is loud!"

I have HKS SuperSquential BOV its not that loud if you do not boost too high which is good, but once you go past 7psi damn thing is loud. probably should get somesort of silence thing for this, maybe buying a BOV sweater :D

TIAL is the best...... -but for some reason did not make it onto the poll so I marked HKS because they come in a distant 2nd

Slant, you're completely on the ball with your deductions; an atmospherically venting BOV WILL make a stock WRX run pig rich A/F ratios between shifts, hurting drivability. i had one on there for a good while, and had a noticeable "stumble" everytime the damn thing made a noise. and forget about part throttle smoothness -- it almost seemed like it vented at hte MOST inoppurtune moments (ie APEX...damnit)...then of course, the car will stumble over the rich A/F mix before it even thinks about powering out of a corner:thumbdown:

I have a Turbo XS type H BOV on my WRX. I like it alot.I've had no problem with my BOV. I'm looking to upgrade it later since I'll be getting a FMIC and Blitz BOV.

haha. now you n/a people can have that blow off valve sound as well
http://www.takakaira.com/accessories/nightpager/nightpager.html

after listening to the sample sounds, type 1 sounds like a greddy, turbo xs type. and the type 2 has a little flutter of hks but not the high pitched sound.

LOL. no need to spend 5-6k for the turbo kit on the celica

Yeah TIAL is the best out there of all the BOVs on the market, but it doesnt really make a loud sound like the HKS.

how much boost can the tial hold? cause the greddy, hks i know is good to up to 25 psi i think. correct me if im wrong. and theres the other hks racing bov which is rated up to like 40+ psi

Anyone have sound clips of HKS or TIAL? How would these sound under only 5-6psi though?

EuGeNiLe GTS
09-19-2002, 09:04 PM
you won't get the distinctive sound of the hks ssqv bov if your only boosting 5-6 psi. at that low psi you will get a little flutter sound along with a "pssssh" type sound. at probably around 10+ psi you get that infamous hks ssqv sound which combines "psssssh" with a high pitched wistle type sound. hard to explain. maybe i can get my friend to make a sound clip.

You guys should hear some of the BOV's that they have in Japan. There are TONS of different BOVs in Japan made by TONS of different companies. The Mine's BOV for the R34 sounds crazy. I was watching the Best Motoring DVD and they had a circuit race between a R34, MKIV, FD3S, S15 and all the cars were modified and every cars BOV sounded different. Personally, Im getting the Blitz dual drive Super Sound BOV. It has 1 port for boosting low and 1 port for boosting high, holds up to 18psi(1.2bar).

EuGeNiLe GTS

only 18psi? thats pretty low though. iw ould imagine cars in japan are running a minimum of 12 or something. but i guess it all depends on boost application. andy you got any clips of those bovs? ive heard of mines, i didnt know they made bovs. i know they tune evos, skylines, wrxs. im sure it would be no problem using those bovs here. you would just need the right flange. import some of those bovs here andy. im sure you would get some people to buy it. ;)

Sorry, no sounds clips. You can come over and watch the Best Motoring video though. 18psi is hefty for Celica owners considering us GT guys wont be able to boost more than 12psi unless we do heavy internal modifications with a fuel management system.
