Hello!
I was just wondering....I found this 2001 Automatic Celica GT for $13k with 45k miles on it.... Do you guys think its worth the buy?

Also, what kind of Celica do you (the reply poster) currently own? (model, year, miles when you first got it, how it runs now, etc). Thanks to anyone that replies :)

Oh yeah, new member btw!

welcome! 13k for an auto GT... i think its a little too much. I have a '00 Celica GT 5spd for $10k last year at 60k miles on it. It was a big improvement over my dad's '91 Accord auto.

I paid less than that for my 01 5spd GT with all options besides auto for a GT and only 35k miles on it last year...

Sounds about right IMO. A lot of it depends on the options of the car plus where you live. Some areas you can buy the same car much cheaper then you could at other locales. Also, you aren't telling us much about the car as far as the option goes.

well when I looked at the ad, they didnt really specify much about options :(
I live in Colorado btw and I was hoping on getting one under 60k miles (its kinda hard to find a Celica around here under 60k at a reasonable price). Does anyone else live in Colorado in the Denver area and can point me in the right direction?
Is it worth the buy? or should I look for something else?

Ok, so 1. I should look for a manual and 2. If I do decide to go with it, I should haggle for around $11k? (I actually thought it may be easier to get around with auto because of the traffic around here and what not)

Teknikal

If you want an auto, and feel more comfortable with an auto, then get an auto. What is book value in your area for the car? What are other cars in the area going for?
www.edmunds.com
www.kbb.com
www.nada.com

Negotiate off of that

Disco Stu
07-19-2005, 08:08 AM
well kbb said its 13k for the car I was looking at and nada says the same thing too. As for other cars, theres a wide range (due to people's opinions on the car) the cheapest "new model" celica I found was a 2002 GT for $11,788 with 61,123 miles on it and the most expensive one was a 2002 GTS for 18K with 21,700 miles to it so theres a pretty wide range on the price around here.

marc
07-19-2005, 08:10 AM
you couldn't pay me to drive an automatic 4-cylinder FWD car.

get the 5-spd, it'll be cheaper too.

Disco Stu
07-19-2005, 08:28 AM
lol I like your title...Gaijin smash!....anywho thats what I thought too (about the 5 spd being cheaper), but when I looked at the ads, some of the cheaper ones were the automatics (including the 13k I listed).... I was a little sad but I like auto and manual both so its not that big of a deal for me.

Also (I forgot to say this) my spending limit is actually at 13k.....so should I look for something cheaper? or just spend the 13k on a car, save money and work on mods later?

btw thanks for the replies everyone! keep them comin! :wiggle:

My previous vehicle was a 00 GTS 6 speed with 64xxx and the total price was 14.5k in January of 05. Moved on to a 01 Mustang GT 5 speed 35k for 15k. Its a wicked improvement over the Celica.

I wouldn't mod your car since you are using to commute to college. Do you have a downpayment? The cheaper car you get, the lower your payments will be. Maybe allow some extra for repairs, high price of gas, drinking money, books, various other college expenses

I thought that autos were more expensive only on new cars...

Disco Stu
07-19-2005, 08:59 AM
No I dont have a downpayment, I can afford the car and insurance (partially because of the rich relatives hehehe:))..But yeah, Im not sure about the autos only being more expensive on new cars..cause isnt automatic an extra option? I thought it costs more cause its like an added feature you pay extra for.

^^^ouch!!! Well KBB and NADA say I should expect to see my GT with all my options in my area with the amount of miles I have on it for sale at about $16K. That was retail price so...! Private owner price was $14K, so like I said I would take no less than $14K for my car with or without the mods, preferably without. I don't think 13,000 for an auto is bad if it is in excellent shape, has some options, etc. well then again you say it is an 01 so yeah that may be a little high. I bet you could get it for $11K.

What?? How in the hell did you get a AP packaged GTS for $7400, especially one that is brand new basically with 49 miles on it???? It must have been a salvaged title or something.

U kno what, the latest KBB value for the 00 celica manual, is about 6500, but yet i still see dealers pumpin the price up to 13-15k. i dont think its worth it buying from a dealer anymore, you should buy from a private seller, thats what im going to do.

I have no clue...but I just went to kbb.com and got a quote for 8600 BB value for private sale. 00 GT with 72000 miles and all standard options.

I just went onto cars.com and found 2 celica's at a Michael's auto for $12k. It took like a minute to find those. Since they want 12k you can probably get it for 10.5k at least

When I traded my 01 Celica GT with 65K miles for a 05 RSX Type S, I got 11,500 in trade for it. I believe they sold it to one of the mechanics for 13K. The car did not have a sunroof, but did have the TRD exhaust and high end aftermarket wheels and tires.

For the person who asked for any Orlando area Celicas....just look it up online at cars.com, autotrader.com or any other online source (OR your local newspaper for ads).
also, to 6spdgts, the leather may be aftermarket.....
anywho, thanks to everyone who helped out, I appreciate the words of wisdom:)

im currently looking at other deals right now
a 2000 GT-S auto for $12,288 with 50k miles, an 01 GT Auto for $12,900 with 40k fully loaded and an 01 GT manual for $10,000 with 31,000 with little options. I found an 02 GT auto for 10,000 with 30k miles but when i called the guy he got rid of the car cause some lady had asphyxiated(sp?) herself in it with cigarettes and the interior was crappy cause she had burned holes in the seats and stuff...creepy
