There is a loud squeling noise comming from my engine. My local Toyota dealer tells me its the tensioer belt. So I 'm gonna ge it replace next week. My friend who also has Celice (Platnm) has the same problem. This is a bit concerning as it seems to be a common problem with the Celica's.
Does anyone know what causes the problem and how to avoided it? It s ok to keep replacing the belts while the car is under warranty, but what happens when the warranty runs out???

I have had the same problem occur about 6 months ago. I think it is a common problem in the US as well. Han't heard of any re-occuring problems/stories with the the belt tensioner.
So hopefully wont get any probelms again when warranty runs out. Or I'll have to fork out my own money to pay to get it fixed at the dealer.

ive had mine changed once because it rattled, now ( 3mths later) it gives a small squeel in the morning when cold. i think ill be due soon again, b4 i end up like nigainzr, loud as hell. we went cruisin 1 night. he was behind me at the lights an i could hear it with my music on n windows down.
thats embarrassing for a car like that!!

hehe, I take the Power FC out and swap back my stock ECU when I go in for a service. They don't know. I get on great with the head service guy and are on good terms with the head sales guy as well.

mine got done today. not even 15000 on the clock. the toyota guy said the part was $750 and i reckon you'd be lucky to get away with $250 labour from them so that's a grand if it goes again. now i'm thinking of selling it in a year when the warantee runs out :(

got my tensioner belt fixed on the 23/4.02. the guys at clintons toyota said the part was approx $350. without labour...
i also had my 40k service done on the car and it cost me $305.....out of which $195 was for labour...does any one think that figure is too much or is that the going rate for that service?
