i was thinking about putting my rear liscense plate lights on a switch and was wondering if anyone knows of a paint that goes on clear but eliminates the reflective properties of the paint the use on liscense plates. i know it exisits but i dont know what its called. basically it makes it so you can only see the plates when they are illuminated, and they dont reflect from a distance. any idea?

Matte clear spray paint might work. You can get it at Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

i don't see how just clear paint would work. i mean, the reflective part is still there. that'd be no different than a plastic license plate cover.

hmmm, has anyone tried sanding down their plate to scuff it up a little? Then repaint the numbers/letters so that they are still visable during the day?

You do realise altering your vehicles license plates is a felony in most states....is it really worth it?

thats BS if its a felony. murder, rape, and arson are felonies. painting your tag shouldnt be one. mabey we should get some real lawmakers into the system to eliminate stupid laws ( e.x. you can take highly addictive OxyCotin but you cant smoke marijuana, which isnt slightly physically addictive ). but thats sorta off topic. ne way i dont think im up for repainting it, but i KNOW that their has to be some paint that will eliminate its reflectiveness. does anyone know of any clear reflective paint? ill just paint the whole damn thing reflective - not as good as non-reflective but still better. anyone know anything about those "beat the photocops" liscense plate covers? i dont have that where i live so i dont know but mabey they would do somethign to help. im just sick of people calling in my plates cause they saw me do a burnout or something like that

Having a registration tag on your car, or plats that don't go with your car is a felony. Improper display of plats on your car is still illigal, but not a felony. It may also differ from state to state, depending on state laws.

The only thing I can think of to rid the plat of it's relfective qualities is to put one of those smoked covers over it. Thre not legal in most states though, because it makes it much harder for a cop to clock you with a laser gun as they need a faily reflective serfice to use them properly. It also makes it harder to read the plat.

The reflective qualities of a plat are part of the paint that's on them, and if you remove the paint, then your plat may no longer be readable at all. It may aslo be illigal to modify a plat in such a fasion, or even at all.

Yea, I do know that it is illegal, I just was suggesting the idea. I haven't done it to my car and I won't.
