1. can i use my stock pillow mounts on the kybs or do i have to get the kyb pillow mounts?

2. i'm going to be using s-techs with these, so do i need to cut my bumpstop? the instructions say you can but i'm not sure if it's really necessary, has anybody cut their bumpstops with this setup?

thanks

one more question Blue,
my friend brought this up to me last night, but wouldn't cutting the bumpstops make it easier to bottom out? the bumpstop is there to keep the shock from compressing all the way right? so if you cut it won't you get the opposite effect? maybe we're just not understanding

Go by what the spring manufacturer says to do on the install. With my H&R springs, it specifically said NOT to cut the bumpstops when installing on a Celica. Other cars that they make springs for DID recommend cutting bumpstops. So it isn't always so simple as "always cut the bumpstops." The shop that installed my springs and shocks thought I was weird and tried to convince me to cut them. I have had no problems leaving them uncut.

If you don't cut it, the strut doesn't need to compress as far to hit it. Cutting it increases strut travel:

Stock:
||======[][][][][][]

Dropped and cut:
.||======[][][][][]

The part on the left is the strut mount and piston, the red is the bumpstop, and on the right is the strut body. You can see there's more room for the piston to compress before it hits the strut body when the bumpstop is cut. This is necessary since the springs will precompress the pistons (why the bottom one is shorter than the stock one above), since the springs are shorter than stock.
