yea...how can a car that has had several major recalls be in any top ten list? that just tells you which lists are BS (Car and Driver) and which have some credibility

holy god, that would be all kinds of wrong, but it's no worse than say the action package deal on the celica (except that looked good to some ;)). i guess that's why pontiac and toyota teamed up for the matrix/vibe :D

That wing on the sunfire screams RICE. :chuckles:
I like to see myself one day race a Focus SVT ... and when i blow by him i see in the rear view mirror the wheels falling off and him not being able to stop(pedal held at full throttle).
Then when i come home and eat some pizza rolls .. i turn on the news to see him being chased down the freeway with 9 cops on him (like oj simpson) And he is praying to god that his rice mobile stops.

hahaha

Riceboy 1: Dude, your Sunfire kills man!!
Riceboy 2: Yeah man, I kill so many birds with my wing it's not even funny
Riceboy 1: Let's go for a ride and blow some Celica GT-S's!!! BTW, what kinda engine is in your car?
Riceboy 2: Dude, its 100% ECOtech power baby!!
Riceboy 1: ECOtech? WTF is ECOtech? This engine gonna save the freakin' planet or something?

Da Kine Guy: Who the hell thought up the name ECOtech for a "performance" engine? "Yeah man, lets go drive my new car with the Economizer engine!! It rips up the assphalt!!!"

Or better yet, "gonna go burn the drag strip in my new car with special World Wildlife Federation edition package which comes with the mighty Sierra Clubinator engine!!"

The wheels falling off is a safety feature, just in case the throttle gets stuck open....

it's not really the engine so much, the ford escort zx2 has same engine, but better gearing. and the s/r model handles well too (runs high 15s low 16s). the ZX3 with that same 130hp engine runs mid-high 16s in manual.

That is pretty sad. They should have used any other car for an svt project than the Focus. That thing is a piece

Damn dumbestics :D

I like the Focus. But the domestic market still has twice as many vehicle problems as imports do.

those car and driver top ten lists are BS ..its soo gay they test all different cars in all different tests and then just give the award to the damn thunderbird..why? becasue its a new car out thats supposed to look like the old ones...that car did horrible in all the tests they dont even look at the test results they just see which car the editors like the best./..its a waste of time toi be testibn all these cars and then poicking the gayest one...god i hate it!!!!!!!

bah..its not that bad a car from what i'm hearing..its built to outhandle several imports... im sure time will tell..

personally, if i was in teh market right now, and interested in the segment, id take the SVT pretty seriously..Ford is throwing some big bucks at that platform to go after the Honda's with..

I agree. It isn't that bad a car. I just dont' have the money to worry about crap when my warranty is up....

I love how Ford is helping to push the aftermarket.... more than I can say for Toyota....

I agree to a point. I loved the Contour SVT when it was new (I don't love it as much anymore now that the water pumps are blowing up left and right) and I have confidence in the SVT team to enhance the already capable focus chassis.

But, the numbers aren't all that great, the price is decent but not quite there, and the gas mileage is suprisingly bad. Some of the focus guys were telling me low 20s for mixed driving and mid 20s highway. I'm sorry, but I think that is unacceptable in this class. I would just as soon get a V8 if economy didn't matter. After all, the focus is still an "economy" car.

I haven't actually driven the SVT yet, so my opinions may change. But I would just as soon get a new Matrix for that price.

yeah..its a start though..considering that 5 years ago american car companies ould have cared less about the market niche of sport compacts.. i think this is a significant jump from nothing.

Willis5050 -- I get 14 MPG on my V8. Thanks SVT. ;) Oh well, didn't buy it for the gas mileage. :D

I haven't seen/driven one, but every review I've read of the SVT Focus has basically gushed about how great the handling is. Quality issues aside, it sounds like a pretty amazing car for the rock bottom price.
