I just got my capacitor and need to know where to put it. I know where it goes but should I put it near the amp in my trunk or should I keep it behind the firewall in the engine bay? It looks too pretty to be shoving in the engine bay. The only concern I have is if it blows up or something. Anyone have exsperiance with this? Do these things blow? It will be behind the fuse....that should take care of the capacitor too right? And it has a negative side.......do I need to connect this to the negative side of the battery or is this the ground? Any help thanks

As far as capacitors go, you want to keep them in the most accesible space possible. I would put it in the trunk near the amp. I dont know what kind of capacitor you have, but the one I had looked really cool wwith my setup

Its a Audiobahn 1 farad....how did you hook up yours? I know that the positive side kinda splits the power cable going to the amp but what do I do to the negative side?

what are capacitors used for?

Sound system.......they supply an additional amount of energy when the amp needs it when a sudden burst of musical high hits....it also boosts the rating (I think of the accual amount of power going to the amp, i.e 12 volt without to 14 volt with). In other words its like having another small battery.

keep it close to the amp, the closer the better. As for the ground, You can use a chassis ground for it, it will work fine.
as far as hooking it up, you will have two cables hooked to the positive side, one cable coming from the battery, and the 2nd going from the pos on the cap to the imput on the amp.

did you charge that thing up before hooking it up?
Might be a good idea if you'd like to keep from draining your battery :)

No I have not....I have not installed it yet.....I heard that there was a card that charges these things but mine didnt come with it. I can just turn on the car after hooking it up and let the car run for a little while..Right?

Well, I've heard that sometimes they can flat out drain the battery because it pulls so much juice when you first hook it up. I've never cared to test it out and see if that is true or not. Your best bet would be take it to an audio shop and let them charge it for you, (they might charge a bit for it) but should take only a few mins.
Or you can use the old car battery charger for it, kinda ghetto but I did that with mine and it worked out ok
