import racers and fans i want to talk to you about the nhra sport compact series. right now v8s are allowed to run in the pro-class with the 4 cilinders and rotaries. this is wrong and i'll tell you why.
for many years the nhra ignored the import scene saying it would go away. import racing will never die it will continue to grow, thats why the nhra got in the game. the problem is that they are allowing the v8 to run against the 4 cilinder and rotors in the pro-class. import racing was founded on 4 cilinder and rotor engines. when was the last time you bought a compact with a v8?
right now you have big v8's that produce twice as much hp as a 4 cilinder or rotor. yet they are only running at 2,400lbs. which is very light, if they have twice the hp, then they should run at twice the weight, just to be fair. in the first nhra event in florida the v8 celica of matt scranton ran 7.32@199.33mph with ease. in its first race of the year. can you imagine when he gets the car dialed in? were talking 6.7-7.0 sec. passes easy. now i ask you, how is a 4 cilinder or rotor supposed to compete with that? right now this car which has a factory produced toyota 2.0 liter engine ran a best of 7.56@184mph

those times are very impressive, but when he finds himself under the christmas tree next to a v8
those 7.5 will look slow. thats not fair to all the racers who have spent money, time and effort to make these little giants go fast.
a 4 cilinder or rotor is under so much stress because of so much hp, its going to be very difficult to beat many v8's in competition when they can run a v8 with 1,600+hp. with no damage.
this import drag racing was for us, the little guys. for the guy who used to get laughed at, at the local track when the domestic v8 heads would see an import. now we have these same domestic guys wanting to race in the nhra series. do you wanna know why? because in there v8 drag racing series that they run during the year, many find themself running against 50 other competitor for less money. in the nhra import series you have less competitors and more money. only 8 cars in qualifying which makes it perfect for them. all they have to do is build a "sport campact" car and slap a v8 and run fast. its easy. too easy. less competition,
they race against 4 cilinders and rotor (which they have no respect for) take home more money. they look at it as easy money. there are already about 6 domestic guys that i know who will make a jump to our nhra import series, its only going to get worse, unless we do something.
we need to let the nhra know that WE the fans and RACERS dont want v8 in our sport. v8 is not what import drag racing is all about.
the domestic guys have dozens of racing organisations that they can run during the year. we have 2 or 3. if we wanted to race at a super chevy show, they wouldnt let us, so why do we have to open the door so wide as to let anybody in? let the v8's race there series, let us keep ours. we started this movement not them.
PLEASE if you are a racer or a fan take 60 seconds and let the nhra know that you dont agree or that you dont want v8's in the pro-class. they dont have to go, but at the very least they should make a v8 class only. they should not run with the 4 cilinders or rotors.
