okay well i recently ordered a set of koni sport yellows and a ground control coil set with a 450 rear and 425 front spring rate.

now my question is for people that have gotten koni yellows on a 7th gen celica (GT) before. i just need to know what u did to install these? this could save me ALOT of time on my install sunday so any comments would be GREATLY appreciated.

thanks

Basically you want to cut the old strut at the correct distance from the top and when drilling the hole in the bottom for the bolt that holds the koni, make sure it is straight and lined up. A drill press would be nice for this but I didn't have one. I did however have a vise to steady it in for srilling and cutting.

Werd....

....I did mine all freehand. No vise. You'll need either a hacksaw or a dremmel or both. if you use dremmel, you'll need the large cutting wheels that you can get for it. They are the ones that look like a wooven carbon disk.

I also had to file down the little nubs on the shock to get it to fit into the stock strut housing properly. That was all for the front set....the rears are simply remove and replace. The procedure for coilovers might be a little different as i have mine installed with hotchkis springs.

to cut the front I measured and marked the strut using a silver sharpie. I would also suggest using a center punch to mark where you are going to drill into the bottom of the housing. It's pretty important to get the hole exactly in the middle of the strut. One of my holes was off a little and it took a while to make everything line up. Use drill bits of increasing sizes helps too.

i may be wrong but it looks like these struts already have the whole on the bottom that you are talking about.... am i mistaken?

I can't see your picture, but the Koni shocks have a threaded hole in the bottom of the fronts. The front shocks are inserts, they are meant to go inside the stock strut. You actually have to cut apart the front stock struts to insert the Konis for proper installation.

A hole gets drilled on the bottom of the stock strut so that the threaded hole on the konis lines up with it. A hex bolt should have been supplied with the Konis....this bolt goes through the drilled hole and screws into the Koni shock. That is how the whole thing is held together.

That is all for the Koni Yellows with springs.....coilovers may be different....I don't know because I don't have them.

post up pics to clarify if you have them.

old pic of the coilovers cause they sent me the wrong spring rates, so the spring rates on the box arent the same as what i have now, but not like that makes a difference with my question, heh

For the front, after you cut the stock shocks, go ahead and install the sleeves before you insert the shocks...use those o rings they give you. also make sure you use those washers for the upper mounts or else it will rub.
For the rear, its pretty straight forward, the sleeves rest on top of the silver koni perches.

My GC are similar to yours, i had them custom at 425 front and 520 rear, its a pretty badass setup.

or am i all wrong, is that a road course instead?
