I've been thinking of building a false floor for my '01 gt-s
and was wondering if some of you can show me your setup wether it is using the spare tire well and also an above spare tire setup. I'm trying to get an idea as to how I should set the depth of the speaker enclosure as well as the length and width of the top deck.
I would appreciate all of your help and thanks.

Brad,
e-mail your pics to Vexashon@aol.com and I'll post them up for you. :)
Well I will have pics in 2 weeks, I will have my sub in the tirewell and also my amps in a false floor in the back seat area... basically getting rid of my rear seats :)

Funny you said that because I was talking with a guy who is a pro installer who did that and put a sub in his spare tired hole. I'll get pics asap.

I've got four twelve's in a 'false floor' in my Celi. The cover has a nice Alpine logo in it. You can check it out in the thread for the trunk setups.
If you have any questions i'll be glad to help.

You guys w/false floor setups... Did you all make them 2 pieces in case you have to take it out? Cause I wanna make one but I want to be able to access my spare if I have to. What do you suggest?

I don't have a spare tire anymore. My sub floor takes up all of the space in my trunk. I removed my spare tire entirely.
Remember that a sub floor (at least one as big as mine) will really add weight to your car. If you want a removable system that will still allow access to your spare tire I recommend getting a sub box rather than a full sub floor.

I'm doing my first ever install at present I've gone for subs along the back seat and a window in a false floor. i'vegone for a 3 piece floor with the center section esilt removable without taking anything else out.
After removing the long tray at the rear of the boot I realised that not all this space is actually usable as there is a structural metal moulding in your way (duh....had this tray out loads of times and never really noticed)
The 3 major problems in front of me were
1] construct a double enclosure that would give a combined volume of 2.5cft
2] Be able to remove it easily when it will have two other panels in front of it at angles (left and right) to take the amp, dvd etc etc)
3] still be able to have my planned window showing the spare and be able to access it without taking any of the install out
The answer was simple in the end (step daughters suggestion!) make it so that when you fold the seats down you can lift/slide it backwards towards the inside of the car!
The problem of constructing the enclosure so that it utilised all available space and still didnt get in the way of the spare was a little fiddly but worth it in the end.
This is the enclosure shape I ended up with (2.48cft)
http://muchos.co.uk/members/perry190/garage%20side.jpg
It's constructed from 12mm MDF which is glued (PVA) and screwed, it then has a very thick bead of 'no nails' type adhesive either around the inner or outer angles to ensure correct sealing.
When placed in the car it sits right back against the seats so doesnt take up a great deal of room

I did have to make one big decision ie, to keep/or not to keep the rear parcel shelf?
If the box is lowered to the same level as the under side of the shelf then it has to come further into the boot to compensate for the loss of volume at the top, as my rear windows are 15% tint and reasonably 'jet black' you cant see into the boot anyway. Consequently I decided not to use the shelf and retain plenty of boot space for europe etc.

I'm now in the middle of making the left and right sections for taking the amp (big bugger), dvd player, sat nav, cap etc. The CD stacker may be a problem, as it may not be able to be visible, however I cant really tell until I get further on into the process
I'm going to put some acoustic wadding into the enclosures anywayt to add to the sound quality.

The side panels to take the audio gizmo's turned out not to be that hard, the desired curve at the nearest edge (by the bag hook) took a bit of sanding down but managed it in the end.
The design side mutated as I progressed, unfortunately the slanting sides turned out to be too restricting for the out of sight parts of the gizmo's, the DVD player rear section was exceptionally long and fouled the plastic moulding.
Consequently I decided to go for a flat/vertical panel on each side thus allowing plenty of room behind the panels

You'll have to excuse the rough filler as it was starting to get a bit too dusty in the garage tonight. I have found a butyl rubber draught exclusion strip (self adhesive) which I'm going to put around the top moulding before I clamp it in tight to the plastic panels of the car

I havnt been able to place the sat nav unit in it's hole as every time you disconnect it, it goes haywire and thinks your in Paris! Consequently I'll play with that at the weekend when I dont need it for work and have the time to reset it properly
Hopefully the cap will fit in it's own cubby hole under the cd changer, when I buy one of course!

The amp isnt fixed in as you'll see from the masking tape, but you get the rough idea.
Still havnt decided what to cover it with yet, budget is a bit thin now so may check out the local market tomorrow and see if there are any cheap alternatives to boot carpet etc.
Thick felt of vinyl might be a cost effective option?
will keep you updated as always :)

Well!
I've left carpentry alone now and moved on to soft furnishings!
I've at long last managed to cover the whole thing with grey vinyl, it doesnt really match the back seats but looks pretty good to me and compliments it in my opinion.
the problem I had is the fact that I'm no good with a needle and thread, so everything had to be stuck with contact adhesive. (including some piping to make the corners look more professional)
All the mdf joints were made tight anyway, so once they were covered in vinyl the were snug as a bug in rug! I've rewired the sat nav, dvd player and cd stacker, but havnt had a chance to wire in the amp and subs. Unfortunately we have people staying tonight and others to dinner tomorrow so it will be a couple of days before I have the time to run the power cable through the length of the car.
While I was picking up the vinyl (

nice job man, looks clean.. add it to the thread at the top! The only thing I don't like are the grills on your subs... if thats even what they are ;)

That's looks very clean. Awesome job. I also am not fond of the grills. How about an idea? Since you have your spare shown, why not make your grills the same shape and design of your rims out of aluminum. That would look sweet IMO.

that looks really nice and clean....if it was just in fiberglass it would be even more sweet...its still a pretty nice and creative setup you got there.

Looks good...but couldnt you find a way to hide the neon tubes somehow? I always thought they looked tacky when you could see the actual bulbs. It looks so much better when all you see is the glow from it but not the source, naw' mean? :) Maybe put one under the spare rim so it glows up from underneath? Also the grills look weird. I probably would have built the box so the baskets were facing out instead. Otherwise you did a nice job!
