Followed CLoNeGTS's guide for installing neons in the footwell word for freakin word. After finding a ground and attaching that last ground wire, I flipped the switch to on and the neons did not turn on at all. The weird thing is the switch is illuminated. It doesn't make sense to me. So I climbed back underneath the drivers side dash and started wiggling the ground wire around. While I was doing that, the switch went dark.. but then the passenger side neon lit up. I haven't been able to get the drivers side neon to illuminate. Now I know the neons work, so that isn't the problem, I tested them before I cut the cig light plug off. Does anyone have any clue what could be going on? Because I don't. For those of you who don't know the wiring procedure in Clone's guide.. it basically tells you to seperate the two wires coming from each neon. Designate one of these wires from each neon as the power supply wire. Those wires are then wrapped around the cig lighter fuse. The two wires that are left are then run to the switch. Then a ground wire is run from the switch to a bolt on the chassis. It's so damn simple, yet I can't get it to work.

Maybe there is a short somewhere? The switch has three prongs and I am only using two.. one of them has one wire from each neon going to it and the other is for a ground. Should I not have combined these two wires? The diagram in the guide shows them combined. Goddammit. Im aggravated.. help me out http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/frown.gif

well i'm not sure from your description where you messed up but i'll try to help. switches with three prongs, i think with those what you want to do is have the power from the 12v source going into that switch, then the 2 neons both plugged into that switch as well. the third prong (usually in the middle) is the ground. you have to ground the switch in order to get it to light up. that switch provides power to the neons. now the other wire on each neon is ground. that should be real easy, pretty much any bolt or screw should work.

i'd use the light up switch with power not ground, i think you have to to get it to light up and stuff. anyways, if you still can't get it, try doing it w/o the switch first. just hardwire them to power and ground. once you get that to work, add in the switch.

Alright, there are only a few things that could be wrong. As long as you have the two power wires going to the switch, that half should be good. Make sure you have good connections.

The other half.....you're lighted switch is a perfect indicator for if your ground is in good shape. Then it's just making sure you are using the right poles on the switch.

It sounds like you just had a few wires crossing or something. Make sure all the connections are covered with electrical tape. After too many potholes, you'll have flickering neons if you don't!

Mine did that....had a wire come loose at the drag strip. Whenever I was on the throttle full, the neons would flicker on, and then under braking they'd go off. Kinda like those bass lights.....except for your throttle...haha.

If you have any more problems with it, just gimme an email. If it doesn't get better, I'll throw you my cell number and help you thru it.

Make sure you don't have the Negative wire on one hooked up to the +. I hinks Neons are directional and won't work if the positive and Negative are backwards.

Thanks for the replies guys.. I figured it out though.. and ProToolKids hit it right on the nose. I was looking at the wires and realized that one wire from each neon was very slightly different. I reversed the wires for the drivers side and now it works. Damn things ARE directional ;)

Can ya gimme details as to how you did it after all and what to look out for? I am gonna do mine pretty soon.

thanks

Just make sure all the wires are connected so that it runs in a loop. Remember. The switch is just a piece that connects two wires to complete the circulation. If things aren't circulated correctly, meaning the electricity has to be flowing in the same direction, then the circuit's not complete.

I got one of those light up switches like yours. There are three prongs on it, can ya tell me which prong is for what?

thanks

What kind of neons are u buying for the footwell. I bought some crappy 8 dollar ones for my truck it looks cool, but it is not really neon. it is just a light with blue tint over the glass i belieave. When i get my celica. i want to get neons for the footwell and the same color for the outside(front, side(s),rear). and host much is this running too if u know thanks.

Check out CLoNeGTS's guide. I found it on teamunison.com under the "installs" section.. in fact, theres a lot of useful stuff to be found there. The only thing to look out for would be that when seperating the two wires running from each neon, be sure to note that the SAME wire from each neon needs to be designated the power wire. If yer a dummy like me, you wouldn't have thought of that until you were ready to break the damn things.. and its not in the guide.

I don't think it matters how many prongs there are, as long as the circuit is complete. With three prongs, you have the opportuinity to wire it so that one prong recieves the power, another goes to the ground, and the third runs to the accessory that you are powering (in this case, neons). I'm using a two prong switch and the wiring in Clone's guide and it works perfectly.

I got some no name brands from Autozone after trying Street Glow neons that I didn't think were bright enough. Go with 15". Mine were 20 bucks a piece.. and they have a built in music sensor. If ya don't have an autozone nearby consider Liteglow.. I've heard they're pretty decent.
