i just recently got an extended warranty for my celica 2000 with about 78K miles on it. The warranty is for 5 yrs or 50K miles, whichever comes first. I paid $1600 for those 5 yrs. I know this is expensive, but my question is, do you guys see many problems with your cars from the 78K to the 125K mileage range? If so, what kinds of problems did you see? Do you think the warranty is worth it? I can quit the warranty at any time , so I guess that's a plus.
thanks in advance

umm... i got my car with 50k in it and now it has around 63k. Since then, I've brought it in for a 2nd gear syncro fix and a snapped shifter cable fix. The total would have amounted for over 2000 dollars. I say keep the warranty.

i say it depends on what it covers. is it just powertrain? either way it feels good knowing you have something just in case the worst happens.

i got a 6 year(from original date of purchase in july 2000) 100k warranty...i have 79700 miles...ive had the car since 58k and its had a bunch of problems that were covered belt tensioner, motor mount(no idea how that happened), 2nd gear, reverse and syncros replaced, cat replaced, maf replaced(even though i have an intake..lol)...i paid like $1000 for it when i got the car..definatly worth it and i still have it till next july. it will be even more worth it if one of my lift bolts decides to break b4 100k

that has gotta be the stupidest thing i've heard. y dont u just change it ur self if it didnt break yet, hello, common sense. cuz believe me, u dont wanna wait like 2 months for them to order parts. or just take it in and tell them u want the tsb checked

but they'd give me a loaner(they gave me one when my tranny was messed up)
if i take it in for the tsb wont they charge me? id rather wait and see then if they arent broken by 100k ill change em myself or trade it in

it sounds like you celica owners have a lot of problems with their cars. Is it normal to see this many problems in a celica?

This comes up a lot. Remember a few things. First, most people don't post when nothing goes wrong. Second, a lot of people on this forum push their cars harder than a "typical" driver.
As for myself, I've not had any serious problems. The only warranty work I had was to replace the junky plastic sunroof with the glass one because the tint in my plastic sunroof spidered.
I've had my car since April 2002 (GT manual transmission) and I've not even had to replace the brake pads yet. I have about 48k miles.

Overall the GTS 6 speed can have the most amount of engine/trans. problems. My GT auto has 60k on it and the only problem has been a stock cd player that stopped playing cds.
