i live in sydney and jus brought a celica..i posted on the main forum thing..but that was a bull**** post..lol...so ill post here..

jus wanted to ask you guys some questions?

1. is 180hp - the gts celica's in the states the same as our 140kw celica's?

2. does any1 know where i can get parts like injen cold air intake, trd exhaust in sydney. cuz im gunna mod my car soon..

3. im gunna drop my celica 2 inches front and back at ozzy? you guys think thats to low??

4. do our celica's do 15.7 secs on the 1/4 stock? i cant remember, so jus wanted to make sure.

Celica in Australia is 140KW = 190 PS, is not the same as the 180gts, but the eninge is still the 2ZZGE

I live in brisbane, i am not sure about syd shops, but i am sure some other ppl in this forum can help u out :)

1 more thing, if u really wana low down ur car, i suggest u to change the Suspension as well, because 1 of my friends only change the spring in his celica, and the factory shock got damage so quick, and it is also not comfortable by changing only the spring.

My car is lowered 2inch and its sits pretty low but not too low that when I drive over a bump or speed hump that it hits.

My local toyota dealer told me that what ever part of the engine you modify...that part wont be coverd by the warranty if something goes wrong with that part. However the rest of the engine should be covered by the warranty as long as the modification you did was not the cause of the problem.

i'm pretty sure our cars do 15.7 on the 1/4mile.

I bought the car with king springs on it, I dont think the suspension has been done. Although, the ride in my car is still pretty smooth.....it dosent bounce all over the place.

I also have a K& N airfilter installed in to the stock air box. It dosent give you any extra kw's but you do notice that the car is more responsive. I have also removed the butterfly valve..which gives the engine a more deeper sound. I'v got the TRD front spoiler extension. In the next few weeks the rest of the TRD kit will be going on. I'v also got 17inch rims which will be painted white soon.

If you installed a CAI you will probably have more kw's as well as an increase in reponsiveness. I didnt want to go with the CAI just incase its void my warranty. I'll wait till my warranty runs out before i do that mod.

Spots exauhast is also happening soon. I'm going to get it done @ Australias Best Tyres & Muffler as they were the only people I came across who are going to let me try the exaust system before i buy it....ie they install it on your car, you take it for a drive and come back. if you like it you buy it, or else they will try another exaust or fit you stock one back on at no cost!!!!

y didnt/dont you get the veilside kit..its around $2700-$3000 fitted and sprayed incl the GT wing..i was goin to get a kit, but i couldnt b bothered wasting the money...

wat im goin to do to my car in 1-2 months is get the CAI and TRD exhaust and a unichip and also drop it with my stock 16's

im gettin 18's in bout 5-6 months..ive got no money..if my insurance policy allows it..im with JUST CARS and my insurance is $4500 thats bcuz im only 18 and have no claim bonuses..its a ****en rip off..

but im sure these mods will void my warranty, so im having second thoughts..i jus brought my car this yr in january so my warranty goes on for another 3 years and by that time ill b gettin a new car.so i donno wat to do..

y dont you just go for a TRD exhaust, they sound nice i heard and give bout 7kw@ wheels i read..

there are ways to get around the big insurance bill. put your car under your mum or dads name and make them the regular driver. you will only be a nominated driver. the good thing with this is you take advantage of your parents no claime bonus and you also build up a rating. my insurance bill is $1100.00 per year. i'm 21yrs

If you lower you car close to 2 inches or more then, your stock shocks are not going to last that long. Lowered springs installed should set you back $400-500. Or maybe a Whiteline suspension kit that have shocks matched to the lowered spring rates.

Celica GTS in the states are rated at 180Hp our cars are rated at 140kw which is 188Hp or as Keenly point out 190PS. (1kw = 1.341Hp and 1Hp roughly equals 1PS) PS is a Japanese measurement of power.

Maybe try Croydon Autosports for the Injen CAI because I've see them use bits and pieces like AEM from the US for some of their Honda's.

Go to www.trdsales.com its a New Zealand based company that are the offical distrubutor for TRD and TOM's in Australasia. I can higly reccomend the US Spec TRD exhaust. They gave me good service and parts arrived fairly quickly.

Well driven, our cars can do high-mid 14's for 1/4 mile and about high-mid 6's for 0-100km/h in manual form of course. Mine did a 6.5 recorded on a G-Tech with only a short ram intake.

hey xtravagant. welcome to the board. :)
my celica is lowered about 2.75inch at the rear and 2.2inch at the front. I have 18s, and the ride is fine, but it does scrape at the rear as the wheel offset is wrong by about 3mm.

I have a magnaflow cannoball exhaust, 2.5inch mandrel bends from the last flange back. It was done by Liverpool Exhausts. Forget about Australia's Best. They are wheel and tyre experts not exhaust experts. my mate had his crx done by them, and it was a pretty s#%t job. Go to Liverpool exhausts. Speak to jimmy or Chev,and they will look after you. and yes you can try the exhaust before you buy it.

As for suspension, I had my car done at Allsprings in liverpool. But now that Whiteline have released a suspension package, you may be better off going to them as they do alot of R&D into their products. Check around for prices, Ozzy tyres are again tyre and wheel experts. You are better off going to professionals in the area of modification that you want.

Engine mods are a bit harder, it depends on who you know and how much you have to spend. There are some decent places in Sydney, one of the better for japanese parts is Advan performance in Silverwater. Ask around the modified car scene and see who recommends who.

cuz i wanna get a Injen CAI and a UNichip..and this mite void my warranty.. im sure the exhaust wont..im looking at a HKS Hiper cuz the exhaust has some power gains, easy to access and looks good..

im proably gunna drop my car 2 inches for now..mayb i havent decided yet..if i drop it 2 i wont need to get suspension... i dont have enough money for suspension atm if im gettin the other parts done...

Toyota will need to prove that the unichip caused any problems, which may or may not be easy. same goes with any mods you do to your car. the exhaust should be fine with toyota, i have had no probs with them yet.

speak to bd4s in sydney about hks products. they did a mates 200SX, and it was a good job. Its pricey stuff, and IMO it is not worth the dollars here in OZ as a custom exhaust can probably get the same power output on our cars for more than half the cost. But if you want brand name products, you cant go wrong with HKS.

The injen CAI is hard to get here in Australia. I checked around previously and couldnt find anyone that had it. When you speak to Advan, ask them about the Trust Air-Inx Filter. I know they have it because I was going to get it at one stage but bought wheels instead. Another good Filter is the Blitz LM Pod. Either one will give you some power increases. Chiptorque in QLD have it, and can recommend someone in Sydney to get it from. I am hoping to get a filter in the next month if I can save some monies.

My exhaust cost me $ 500 at Livepool exhausts. It was the first mod I did, and prob one of the best, as it really makes the car enjoyable to drive.

Allsprings did a good job. Your car is brand new so there is no use in changing the shocks if you dont go more than 1.5-2inches. My car rides suprisingly well considering the height, its just the scraping at the rear, and I am having the front reset to go lower. It cost me about $380.

If you want a full suspension system, either go for the Whiteline package, or save up and get a Tein Coilover from Advan, about $3300.

Just do springs and wait for some decent shocks. a package is gonna cost you at least $1800. You wont get springs and shocks for $1200 for our cars. I will upgrade the shocks later, but at the moment it rides fine so I am not worried. It works out about 2.75 at the rear with a full tank of petrol. :)

As for what the car looks like with 18s and no kit, check out my pics. I have 18x8 BBS wheels, lowered, although the street where we took the photos is on an incline so it doesnt look as low. I have some new pics to post that really show how low the rear is. :) http://au.photos.yahoo.com/mshadau

My exhaust doesnt scrape that often, only on some inclines and ****, but otherwise it is fine. You just have to be careful with it.

I agree, kits are a waste of money, and there are so many celi's going around with kits on, that my car looks individual.

Insurance is the only reason I dont have a WRX/200SX...etc but the Celica is a great drive....and pulls it's weight well....hope you have fun...kick ass car man....

JUST CARS was the cheapest..but this is alrite..cuz when i get my next car either a STI or EVO 6-7 in bout 2-3 years (cant wait)... i will have around 40% no claim with JUST CARS under my name..in about 2-3 years i reckon JUST CARS will be the cheapest turbo insurance companie...

if your under 25 and join JUST CARS you start off with a 0% no claim doesnt matter how much previous no claim bonuses you had..

e.g. my cuzin had a lancer with nrma under his mum's name and him as a nominated driver..he paid $2200...dont ask me y it was that much.. he was 18 when he got the car..he built up around 30-40% no claim..he is about to buy a GTR R33 in 1-2 weeks..no insurance companie in Sydney will insure him other than just cars..
its $6700 p.a. cuz his 20 (under 25) and he isnt able to use his previous no claim bonuses with just cars..
if he started out with JUST CARS INSURANCE he would of gotten 30-40% no claim with just cars with his lancer..and got cheaper insurance with his GTR..

Insurance, im with GIO Business and i pay about $ 1300. But im 23, and I have 60% no claim bonus. I would love a 200SX, but i just cant justify the insurance premium and the pricks want the car in a garage at my work, which I cant do, and also nissan are stricter than toyota when it comes to mods to your car. How can you people pay so much for insurance??? thats crazy money

my insurance is with the NAtional Bank, you can ring them on 132928 and get a quote. I pay $1100pa but i work for the bank and i get staff discounts. (10%)

However i can guarantee you even if your not a staff member the premium wont be $2500pa.

When you ring up make sure you tell them your nominated driver and that you drive the car 5% of the time and your parents drive it 95% of the time. Hopefully your parents have a 60% no claim and if they are over 40yrs the premium should be even cheaper.

If you can get your family to take out home contents insurance as well you can end up get a discount of approx 15% on the premium.

I 'm part time student and am ther at nights only...usually mondays.

I dont bring my celica to uni any more as some bastard keyed it two weeks ago....this was at uws parramatta......so now i just cant trust those damn uni car parks....so now i drive my mums car to uni.....which really sux's

With the insurance for $750.....under your parents name man....you wont get any no claim bonus....as you wont be a "listed driver" but if u have a crash...u will still be covered.....only u pay a hefty excess to claim it..
