View Full Version : A very car newbie here that needs some help
Well, I just got my first car 2 weeks ago, its a 2000 GT. Well, honestly I am a car newbie, and know nothing about the car, but I really wish that I can learn something here with all the community, and I really like to mod my car in engine and also the appearance. So my second* newbie question in this forum is (I already asked the first question here):
2. What should I change first to my car? (It has nothing but a Air Intake), first appearance? or engine? if is appearance, which first? if is engine, which first? And if its the owner's choice, what do you recomend?
Thank you a lot for the attention, and hope you reply!

You have to ask yourself a couple of questions and decide what you can and can't do.
First off, performance wise, are you looking to make the car actually fast, or just do some little mods to satisfy the urge? This also depends on your $$$ situation.
If you already have an intake, you can port your header and get a nice exhaust.
If you want to actually make the car respectably fast, you'll have to go the boost route, which will cost you.
I personally think our cars can look very nice if dressed up correctly. This too will cost you. Bodykit, suspension work, rims, etc etc... It gets fairly expensive, and once again I don't know how far you want to go. I'm personally a highschool student who doesn't have a bunch of dough to spend on such things, so I've done some mods which just clean up the car quite nicely, and are cheap ;). The s2000 antennea I think makes the car instantly look better. The stock antennea is a monster, and replacing it cleans it up nicely. Redding out your taillights is nice to do as well, get rid of that orange.
Personally, I'd replace that crap system with some nice speakers and a new headunit.

That's how I spent my money  You can see the s2k antennea ^^ Haha.

well.. i would start inside.. and put a sound system.. that is what i did.. spent around 1500 for that.. then i bought me some black altezza tailights and some 17' diablo d6 rims.. then just recently i put some proformance mods.. i/h/e.. the basics.. then the next phase is paint and a bodykit..
but it all depends on you.. like.. honestly.. appearance is the way to go.. cause everyone knows that our cars aren't that fast.. i also have a gt but 2001.. the only way to make it somewhat fast is to put turbo.. but i'll only do that if you are serious about fixing your car..
you can do simple stuff.. like the antenna.. dantegts.. sells some nice decals.. for your car.. really makes a difference.. hmm put some super whites.. then you are on your way

the first thing i did on my car was put a personalised number plate on it! over here in the UK, they are a big deal and cost a lot
then I got my sound install done, did headunit, subs, amps, new second battery
also had engine start button done at the same time, together with a remote engine start kit
then installed a HID headlight kit (8000k), looks amazing now, am very happy with that
and just recently, i installed my new JDM tail lights
