Interesting question:

Will the installment of an S-AFC void warranty?

Thanks,

Fin

I would think it would, but if there is a good way to hide it maybe they wouldnt find out hehe. Anyone have experienece with this?

hmm wouldn't hiding it be very hard? Doesn't the install require you to splice wires that lead to the ECU. Spliced wires would look very suspicious. I bet any trained tech woould figure out what had happened.

it does void your warranty completely if they really needed to get up your ass about it...

That really sucks. But, if it doesn't hurt the car, then I guess it shouldn't matter too much.

I've had some experience with this thing twice now (2 Celica owners from this board). Both of them had SAFC's and both lost basically their complete warranty on the car. The reason is, when installing an SAFC you must splice into the ECU wiring...which is, of course, part of the wiring harness. In case you didn't know, the wiring harness is the collection of wires that runs throughout your entire engine bay. One person on this board, who I will not name, mis-shifted and the dealer refused to fix the car unless he replace the wiring harness first. The second person was having problems with the rev limited kicking in at lick 6,000 RPMS or something. This was being caused by a short in the wiring harness due to the SAFC. Thus, if you are thinking about installing an SAFC be warned...to purchase a wiring harness and pay the dealer to install it...it's around a $3,000 to $4,000 job...they have to dissassmble the engine to install it...it's a big job that I don' t think anyone on this board wants to undertake...although someone did and I know they wish they never did.

Thanks Drew, interesting info. You all made me think twice about installing it. I'm contemplating the install now. I didn't know you had to splice wires. This needs to be done correctly for sure.

I was told clearly by my the service director at my dealership on this... he said : "There are aftermarket engine managment units available for the celica (he was talking about the Hal and the tec3) and they are all made for off road use only. If you do put one on you will void in entirety the powertrain warranty."

any little service on the car will cost way more than 300 bucks if you dont have your warranty... if you're gonna void your warranty... do it right (like all out)

Acilec, take it to a shop and have them install it if it makes you uncomfortable. That way, if they splice into the wires wrong, you can hold them accountable to fix it.
