hey im working on designing my custom trunk right now, and i ran into a few questions...

1) did anyone attach their false floor to the car or is just kind of in there, and if you did attach it, what did you use? L-brackets?

2) the material for the false floor, should i use MDF or plywood???

3) should I dynamat the all the metal underneath???

any help would be appreciated!

i use a thicker board for the false floor so i can attach my 15 in the middle where the spare use to be. Also i dynamat the bottom so it would not rattle and hit harder from my 15 and 2 12s! I use a thick plywood from homedepot and cut it so it fit as much as i can get in as one piece.

 your first post is to answer one of my questions :)

anyways, im planning on making a hinged door to get to the spare as i dont really want to take it out... even though it is just a donut. so you used what like 3/4" plywood? or 1"?

and did you attach it to the car? my plan was to attach the top piece to 2x4's as a frame underneath running parallel to the car... but im not sure if that will work

yes, dynamat and use MDF raw 3\4. the hinge thing.. i dont think that would work. thats going to be vibrating like crazy. if you still want trunk space then use the back of your rear seats for a setup. good luck and keep us posted on your project!

im still fighting over the idea of removing the spare... its a donut and i always have my cell phone... but then again if i take it out i know some stupid crap will happen and ill need it, lol

i dunno, i think the hinge thing could work if i can work out a latch for the hinged door.

thanks for the input

My false floor is friction fit, mostly. I did use some speaker grill ball-n-socket type connectors to help everything line up. Use 3/4 MDF over plywood, as it is more acoustically dead, plus flexes less.
I HIGHLY recommend using sound deadening material; dynamat, brown bread, etc. Also, you can keep your spare and use it as a mold for your sub enclosure; as I have done mine.

Just materials was around $150-200;several large cans of resin. Took roughly a week to do. Most of that is just adding layers on top of layers to the bottom of the sub enclosure.
