i am installing a sub and amp with my stock stereo, so i am using the high inputs on my amp and tying in to the rear speakers. my question, where is the rear harness that contains the speakers wires located? and what are the wire colors i am looking for. i do not plan to remove the stock stereo, i just want to tie in to the rear speakers at the closest point to the trunk. also what are your suggestions regarding the remote amp turn on? i have thought about wiring it to an acc fuse, and having a switch in line with that so i can override it to turn the sub off at will.

this is FAR from my first install, so I'm clear on everything but this. i have not done an install yet using a stock stereo, but I'm quite happy with the Toyota one, so why upgrade?

I use a kill-switch to turn off sub at will, it is connected to the amp remote wire. In the installs link shows how to wire up and speaker wire to look for also. Good luck on ur installation first time are alwayz hectic and fun...!

but I'm quite happy with the Toyota one, so why upgrade?

clarity, power, and overall better sound quality. as well as better control over equalizing and bass.

thats just my thoughts though.

i would just run new wires from the radio to the rear speakers itself...

remote wire just looks for a 12v signal for the on. when i had my subs tied into my stock hu i just made a jumper from the 12v+ to the remote, then installed a 20 amp switch between the battery and amp so i can turn them on and off. this is one way of doing it. another would be like you said, just tapp something, like the clock or sig that comes on when you turn the key, and add a switch inline along with it

ok, so that ones answered, now where can i tie in to the speakers? i dont want to run new wires from the stereo, cause that will make a mess, i want a clean install, and i feel that i can do it easier if i can find that harness. and what color are the speaker wires, i cant find a schematic.

just pull the rear plastics and tap the speaker wires right before they enter the rear speakers, its ez, i believe its like red and white wiring

is there any procedure to removing the plastics, or is it obvious? i cant tell, and is there a guide, or something to tell me how to remove them. i cant find a repair manual covering this car.

i can do it without removing the rear seats, but you might want to just to get the feel of it. get a 12mm socket and remove the two bolts on the back of each seat. then pull the backs out. after that give the bottom a yank, its loose in the back and snapped in on the front, a little gentle force removes it. after that, pick a side you want to work on and start in the top of the door area and pull the edge off, kinda yank it as you go down the edge. when that edge is free start pulling away from the top, its just got snaps, then you can access the speaker and wiring

If you have the premium 8 speaker system, your output harness (the ones going straight to the spkrs) is on the amp up under the dash panel to the right of the glove box. It s the largest (widest plug).

nope, i only have the 6 speaker system. the only option my car has is the wing/fog lights package. thats it. everything else is standard, and it sux.

i will take a look at the panel, and see if i can pull it, cause aparently its too changeling to find the harness and do it from there, i just thought it would be a lot faster, and be less work. guess not.is there enough room under the back seat for my wires to culminate in to one spot so i can still get the clean look?

Also look down far from the behind the radio, usually toyta provides a by pass harness. follow the wires
