I'm going to be getting my Celica on Saturday and am trying to make plans for everything. Currently I have XM in my car, but I'm wondering where everyone here who has XM (or Sirius) mounts their antenna, and how good the reception is. And how did you run it outside of the car? Any special places to avoid to keep it from leaking when it rains?
Thanks folks! :)

I have mine mounted right behind the 3rd brake light. Its one of those new micro XM antennas. Reception is fine, unless the sunroof is opened all the way. I had a glass mount one that was much better, but it looked like a big dildo sticking up.

Same place but mine is ok with the sunroof open. BTW: SIRIUS not XM.

I had mine on the dashboard for awhile but for some reason whenever I would turn on the fan for the ac/heat the signal would cut out so I put it on the roof. It worked great except for that. Sirius not XM. I didn't try moving it to the opposite side of the dash but that probably would solve that issue.

Mine is mounted right above the rear view mirror on the roof. If you look closely at my sig, you can see it.
XM, btw.

You can put it on the dash but stick a metal plate under it for optimum reception. Some GPS antennas come with a metallic sticker that can be used with the satelite radio antenna. Helps reflect the satellite signal.

But how good is the reception with it on the dash or mounted on the rear cargo tray???

Nowhere near as good as on the out side. Best spots are center of the front of roof (right behind windsheild weatherstripping) or right behind the 3rd brake light

Mine is posted right above the center console where the dash forms the V shape. I get great reception, unless of course high rock walls or overpasses are around.

i just got the sirius starmate, and i put the antenna in the center of the dash as well, above the clock. there is no need to put it outside the car as you get full signal strength with it inside the car. besides, i can drive under trees and watch the signal strength drop down to only a few bars and sound quality doesn't suffer any. i also, mounted the antenna on a small metal plate, which makes it easy to remove and take to my other car. i stuck the suction cup mount on my storage tray door, seals good cause i have the acculaser carbon fiber dash kit, anyways i tucked all the extra antenna and power wire in the storage area. install looks pretty clean and no glare on the screen

How thick should this metal plate be and what sort of material should it be made of (aluminum, steel, etc.) for the best reception?
Also noticed that somone suggested Metal tape used for GPS antennas-- does anyone sell this seperately?
Thanks,
