how do you know when it is time to refill the bottle? is the bottle near empty if i purge, hear the pressurized air coming out but dont see any white smoke?

That would be a good indication, however, by this point the pressure is already low so you are running on a much reduced shot of niotrous, although the fuel will remain high, basically running you rich. This isn't as bad as running lean but you are risking damaging the cat.
I would suggest you invest in a pressure gauge which will give a much better indication of when its time to fill up.
BTW - Do you freeze your bottle before filling it up?

just got the kit installed- 1st time refilling!! am i supposed to freeze the bottle before getting it filled? is it a good idea to slowly open the valve and let the leftover n2o leak out or just keep it inside?

Before you fill the bottle you need to open the valve fully and let it vent to atmosphere, this should obviously be done outside and don't point it at anyone, that **** hurts. Wait until the bottle is totally empty (no hissing) and then sling it in the freezer for an hour or so with the valve open, then when you go to fill the bottle up you will get a proper fill of gas only as the coldness of your bottle will effectively suck the nitrous in (its a liquid at this point), if you don't then you will get a fair bit of air in the cylinder and although it will weigh 10lbs you aren't getting 10lbs.

what about purging? it sounds like its doin the right thing but no white smoke. could that be a sign of a low or empty bottle?

It should give the white smoke if there is nitrous, the only time this may not be true is if you haven't purged the system for a while after using it, this would give the nitrous time to warm up and go to gas form.

Sorry that didn't really answer the question, I would say that no white on purge=empty bottle.

you should really be judging an empty bottle based on pressure though.. not the color of the air that comes out :).. or you could weigh it?? my bottle was super light when it was empty.. you could tell.. should bel ike 10.6lbs or something without nitrous

bottle was empty. got it filled, got bosch copper plugs and threw in 50 shot jets. everything is nice...really nice!! love the punch for a gt! hey larryd, is it possible for me to adjust the wot switch for n20? can i have it kick in before wot?
You could put the switch where ever you want on the throttle...but in reality, why would you want to spray if you are not at WOT? You are just asking for trouble!
On my car I have the switch kick in at 93%...with my momo pedals its a tad harsh to get 100% throttle...and maintain it there.

You must have a steel bottle to get that much weight at empty, try and find an aluminium one, that'll keep the weight down. As a tip, they are just fire extinguisher bottles so get one of those and stick you valve on in place, you get the added bonus of having a fire extinguisher fight with someone first :D
Not that I would condone that sort of reckless behaviour of course :D
