Hey guys,
Its time to get a new battery.
Now is there any benefit getting an Optimal Battery ??
I dont have any Stereo or Electronics hooked up to the car. Will I benefit from getting one ??
If so,
What should I get for a GTS with no electronics or System ???
Red Top or Yellow Top ?? Whats the difference ?? Do they all fit for Celica ?
Any specfic model I need to get ??
Thanks
Red and Yellow: 34/78
Go with red since you dont have any electronical upgrades.
BTW, I forgot what brand, but there are other similar colored batteries that perform as good as the Optimas.
If you plan on getting a sound system, it be best to get the yellow, though the red should be pretty good.
Red is cheaper than the Yellow.

I recently had my battery die while i was at work. Luckally there is a shop in the same building so i got a temp battery put in and i ordered the optima red. Then he comes back and goes he couldnt get it to fit. I dont remember why the hell he said it wouldnt, he said the contacts are in an unusual place and even if he turned it around the negative wouldnt reach or some **** AND it was too low. I have no idea, i wish I could take the time to try and get it on there cuz i know i could figure out a way. Even if i have to construct a riser and get a longer wire (I have an amp with a breaker box).

No.....
I mean better response, better lighting, better starting, no dimming whatsoever........
If the red top works just like a regular battery, I mind as well save some mola and get a regurlar battery :wtc:

They're much better actually. Since they're gel celled they have a reserve charge and offer better starting, lighting, etc like said before. Also you can run your stereo longer with the car off. Red and yellow are actually shorter than stock so you dont have to worry about fitment problems. I replaced my battery with a stock one, and then a week later got the optima because the stock one just wasnt cutting it. I like having the piece of mind that in summer and winter my car is always gonna crank over.

Alos, a more subtle difference between the Optima and regular battery is that you can mount an optima in the trunk w/o setting up a ventilation tube.
Go with red since you dont have any electronical upgrades.
I don't think "electronical" is a word....
Here is the answer I got from Autoshop101:
1. No liquid electrolyte to spill.
2. Can be deep cycled several times without damage.
3. Totally corrosion & maintenance free.
4. Three to four times longer battery life compared to regular batteries.
5. More plate surface and closer plate spacing provides a lower internal resistance resulting in more power in a smaller battery case and the ability to recharge much faster.

Taken from a post off of Team Celica forum:
The Yellow Top and the Blue Top are the same.
The Blue top specify they are for marine, because they have the extra posts on the top (perfect for trolling motors)
but they are also perfect for aftermarket cars because the extra posts allow you to add on accessories and unplug them to work on them without unplugging your whole battery etc..
If you are looking for an OEM replacement battery then get a red top. that is a "starter" battery.
the Blue or yellow are "deep cycle" batteries for heavier loads, such as a car with aftermarket products, sound system, lighting, etc.
The D34M...

and the D34...

are the same battery..
but the blue has accessory posts.
now there is a yellow that has optional front mount posts for GM cars.. but they arent "accessory" posts.
so..
OEM.. get the 34
Aftermarket use.. get the D34M or D34 the blue with accessory posts usually cost sbout $25 more.

I personally have a blue top and I like the little accessory posts

my old car had accessory battery posts remotely mounted. I loved that because I could throw on ring terminals and not junk up the stock battery. the red's and yellows usually have both top and side terminals so its up to you, obviously the top posts are used more

The only thing that sux about Optima Batteries is that
the terminal post is not that far apart compared to the OEM
Battery. I ended up melting my wrench on the negative post.
I didn't even know it touch until I smelled something.

Yeah, i understand but batteries are highly specific in their numbers and I called autozone to get one and they are telling me that there are other numbers after the D34, do you have the complete number for the battery??? Or a website that matches my celi to the specific battery? Otherwise, it is useless to go to the store with just D34 as a reference....

just goto autozone and get the yellow or red or blue, they all fit.

:werd: just ask for a D34(Yellow) or D34M(Blue w/posts) the other numbers shouldn't matter.

The D34 terminals are reversed which makes it hard to connect the cables.
I am now told thatbthe D35 is the way to go since the terminals are oriented the same as on the OEM battery thus easier to install....

I just bought an optima red top last week... i got the 75 group size..
you can adjust the height of the battery cuz the plastic cover that comes with it.. comes apart and you put it underneath the battery so it raised it more so you can tie it down..
the optima batttery is worth it..got it for 118.00 at autozone.
my car starts in about half a second.

the terminals are on the opp side but your cables should be able to reach.. the ground wire is clipped on the ride of the battery..and it should give some slack. red is best for automotive use yellow is for other crap and blue is for marine shiet

Which optima did you get??? Model number? Do the poles line up the same as the OEM battery? The D34 does not line up the same.
I just talked to autozone and they were such a-holes about it, I will need to go to the store and get the battery off the shelf and just pay for it, they refused to look for one over the phone citing that they have nothing on their computer for the celica on the Optimas.
