I am interested in a project car with my friend which starts off with something old.

I was just throwing around a thought but I have always had a thing for the Toyota Chaser which never came to the states (or did it?)

Anyway just wanna know if I can create something similar?

*update with pics at bottom*

If anyone cares I decided to go with a 1986 Toyota Cressida with future plans for a 1jz egine swap.

nope... but theres a shop in Hawthorne, CA called G Speed Corp. their website:www.gspeedcorp.com (http://www.gspeedcorp.com). Right now they have a JDM DC integra chassis for sale.
A Camry is NOT a Chaser. 2 different cars. Even in Japan, the car is still called a Camry. You can do an Altezza conversion on an IS300. Throw out the 2JZGE for a JDM 3SGTE motor. You'll have the "Hachi 2000" at your hands.

Most likely not. That car was never brought to the US. Not even as a diff named model.

well if it was possible to obtain a 1JZ then would it possibly fit in another RWD Toyota sedan?

A Toyota Chaser is like Supra sedan, but you can buy a 1991 cressida and do a engine swap to a twin turbo(1JZ-GTE ) and have a sleeper that is also able to drift.

The Chaser is the last generation Lexus GS300 - except instead of the 2jz-ge in that car they put the 2jz-gte

The Soarer is the SC300 - same dealy, instead of the 2jz-ge they put a 2jz-gte

Also, remember the 2jz-ge is in the IS300, and when you simply turbocharge that you get the power of a Supra without needing an engine swap - it can't hold AS MUCH power, but most turbo IS300s are running 11s and 12s without a problem with only the bolt-on turbo kit.

So, my advice would be to buy an older Lexus GS300, turbocharge the 2jz-ge in it, and rebadge it as a Chaser like I've seen many people rebadge the IS300 as Altezza.

Theres a local shop in (my)town, and the owners have made a few 1jz Cressida's.

If your looking for parts, or info on the swap, these guys know everything about the cressida, and the 1jz-gte.

How much are u planning to spend?, I would get Cressida they got incredible quality, it was like the pre Lexus of it's days. The body kit you may have to look to other countries. But if you got money go for the Lexus or maybe Camry All Trac with 3rd gen 3sgte swap....

That's what i call "toyota power"..

The Chaser is the last generation Lexus GS300Lexus GS300/400 is an Aristo... not a Chaser.
You can keep the 2JZGE in the IS300 and turbo charge it, but it won't be as fun to drive around compared to a 3SGTE swap.

I'll sell u mine :D
RHD, 97000 kilometers, 1JZ-GTE VVTi, 97 (JZX100 last body style)
All stock (has timer), sunroof, Radio/CD/Tape/TV, pearl white, AT
(importing costs extra)
hmmm...it all depends on which Chaser model you have a thing for..
I dont think turbo Chasers had a factory 2JZ:
the JZX-90 Tourer V (92-96) has twin c12 turbos, JZX-100 Tourer V (96-01)has a single c26 which adds 12-15 more hp in stock form (to around 290) and they are both 2.5L
Early JZX-100's and below did not have VVTi (some say its easier to mod).
Tourer V is the turbo trim level, Avante and Tourer S came with a 1JZ-GE. Avante G (JZX-101) came with a 2JZ-GE (no turbo).
The Chaser never made it to the US as a JZX 90 or 100 (92 and later) and is not related to any Lexus; in '90 and '91 (and i think the 80's) they were available in the US as the Cressida

What is this Camry All Trac you speak of?

Anyway I don't plan to spend that much but I am just kicking around the idea for fun and keeping it away until I get into grad school which will be a while.

I was thinking about the Cressida before with the 1JZ and maybe I'll get back to it in a while when I start making some money.

if you want somthing different get yourself an oldschool corolla 80-83 4agz swap or even 3sgte. swap in rear end that can handle the additional power & talk about a sleeper nobody would know what hit them. rear wheel drive too sick ****.
the chaser is like a bigger version of the toyota cressida, would be a hot car & rare here in the states goodluck getting your hands on one.

So, now that your original thread is almost a year old. What are your plans?

after I have enough money for a 1JZ twin turbo engine its going in there for sure!

There have been plenty of people putting 1JZ's into Cressidas.

what I would wanna do is an SR20DET and manual trans swap into an Infiniti M30. i love the styling of the old M30s... just sucks cuz all of them come auto.
Yea, I've heard lots of Cressida guys doing 1JZ/2JZ swaps, but I hear more have done 7M swap. Most likely cheaper and more easy to pull off than an 1JZ.
