My dream engine (and transmission) would something like:

Engine: 2ZZ-GE Custom
Aspiration: Normal
Displacement: 1.906L
Bore: 83.5mm (+1.5mm over stock)
Stroke: 87mm (+2mm over stock)
Peak Power: 240hp @ 8500rpm (flywheel)
Peak Torque: 155lbft @ 7500rpm (flywheel)
Revlimit: 8900rpm

Gear Ratios: stock
Final Drive: 4.733 (up from 4.529)
Differential: Helical LSD

My dream engine and transmission is the WRX's engine and transmission. Just imagine, that car's performance and aftermarket potential and our car's stunning looks. That would be a dope-ass combo. (Hehe, I can dream, can't I?)

H-6 Porsche Engine would be nice, Helical LSD and AWD.

Forget a 2JZGTE or 3SGTE, I want the backseat and trunk gutted so I can put an RV8F (the current Toyota CART engine) in there! http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Either the engine that VVTLIKICK mentioned or the 3SGTE. Because those are both feasible. The 2JZGTE engine will not fit and you'd have to fabricate a whole new drive train (or work with ours, if even possible) or some other possibilites, but it just doesn't become worth it.

None of the above.

The 3SGTE is nice, but rather dated. I would never bastardize my car with another manufacturers engine.

So, what I'd like to see is Toyota do a new turbo motor.

The 3SGTE would be an allright platform, but i'd like to see a new block (isn't the 3SGTE iron block?). I want aluminum block, and I do want a little more displacement.

Maybe just make the "3ZZ" hybrid that folks speak of. High revving engines are over rated. Give me some power that I can use without having to downshift 2 gears. VVT-i systems offer such a linear torque curve, adapt them to a turbo motor. Even better, custom a set of VVTL-i cams to a turbo motor.

Use the first cam for good off the line grunt, it doesn't need to support high revs, it just needs to be tuned to get a turbo spinning and make it spin up fast (yes, cam profile and timing can make the turbo spin up lightning fast). Once you are making boost, you can compensate for too small of a cam for a bit (if needed), then, once you have the turbo making plenty of boost, switch to a larger cam so all that compressed air has someplace to go.

So, a VVTL-i system *tuned* for forced induction is where it is at (even better with dual VVTL-i). With a 3ZZ hybrid and proper VVTL-i setup, you should be able to make 250 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque easily. Only you'd have 95% of that torque from 2000 RPM up to redline (figure all of this at 14 psi or less).

That is my ideal engine. Screw the EPA, make the power where it is needed, down low. Even better, let it breath up high as well!

Scott, nice idea! Only problem is, I doubt that car could make anything OVER 250hp because of the fuel system. Unless it was changed to a return fuel system (which our cars are not) you'll have problems pumping all the fuel needed at higher HP.

Any dream engine....Chevy small block, convert to rear wheel drive...350ci with 400hp 400lbs of tq...Im thinking like 10k to convert to rear wheel...custom mount rear end/suspesion, tranny bracket, shortend drive shaft, aside from changing the whole front end to accomadate headers/oil pan/radiator...Like I said, it's a DREAM..but ohhh it would be fun.<IMG SRC="http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/smilies/cwm32.gif" border=0>

i think either the boxter s engine or the lexus 4.0L aluminum V8 putting out 300 horses!! oh yeah. or if that's too much to put through our little beast's body, tame it down a little with valve timing and throttle restriction and so on... but that would be completley totally sweet! a crisp, short-throw 6-speed and well, i could go on forever...

4.3l V8 VVTL-i engine putting out 450+hp @ 8500rpm http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

but if it's for our celica, i'd go with vvtl-ikick's suggestion with a 6-speed transmission.

either that or a 400hp turboed 2ZZ-GE (with new internals and stuff) connected to a Level Ten auto GTS tranny plus a 50 shot of NOS sprayed after every shift. on drag radials.

Toyota made the 3SGTE all the way up till 99 in Japan cause they never took away the MR2 Turbo there. (Ive also heard that they still make it and the newest edition has 300hp at 14psi stock!!!)

Id go with the 3SGTE because its legendary in performance and reliablity. And cause I already have one and love my MR2T and its performance.

I would go with the 2JZGTE or the 3S-GTE engine. But what about a 4A-GTE engine?

There's never been a 4A-GTE motor from Toyota's factory. There has been a 4A-GZE motor, available in the MKI MR2.

I wouldn't mind the 3S-GE Dual VVT-i motor, then turbo it.

I'd love to have the 2.0L 210hp of the Altezza, but give it VVTL-i instead of VVT-i. It should raise the hp from 210 to 230 and have it redline at 8000rpm's and peak power at 7400rpm's. I still want the change over @6000rpm's, but different gearing that would enable it to stay above 6k on redline shifts. The engine shouldn't be that much heavier than the 2ZZ and still be lighter than 3sGTe. At the same time would bump up the torque on the celica.

Celica GT-S 2.0L 230hp@7400rpm's
6 speed
2700lbs.

sounds like a RSX-S or RSX-R based on the figures. With those numbers low 14's are attainable stock.

I will have to agree with the newbie who said the 3S-GE Dual-VVT-i...

Absolutely awesome engine, VVT-i on intake and exhaust cams, 8000 rpm readline, and 200-215 hp (depending on trim).

Have you guys seen the torque line on these things? ~200 lb/ft of torque from 1500-7500 rpm!

INSANE!

INSANE! Sorry to burst your bubble, but peak torque on the Dual VVT-i 3S-GE in the Altezza RS200 is 159 lb&middot;ft. You're probably seeing N&middot;m on the chart you're getting the info from (BTW, 159 lb&middot;ft is an extremely strong torque output for a NA 2.0L, it's more than the US-spec S2000 2.0L, but less than the Japan-spec S2000).
