i got this remote but this wont work for me i get stuck at step 8 the door locks never cyle. ive tried 1, 2, 3, and 4 times it doesnt do anything. the car came with only one generic 'curtis' brand key. is this my problem? thanks for the help!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Getting a Replacement Remote

Look on ebay or google, make sure the remote has the following FCC-ID: bab237131-056

2) Installing the remote (credit to iPal)

1 open door, take key out...

2 insert and remove key from ignition 2 times

3 close and open driver's door 2 times

4 insert and remove key from ignition

5 close and open driver's door 2 times

6 insert key into ignition

7 close door

8 turn ignition from 'lock' to 'on' and back to 'lock'

if you do step #8

*1 time it's for add mode

*2 times for rewrite mode

*3 times for confirmation mode

*4 times for prohibition mode

9 remove key

10 then door lock will cycle 'lock' and 'unlock' a number of times
corresponding to your key cycles in step #8

11 press lock and unlock button together for 1 ~ 1.5 sec then release

12 then within 3 sec press lock button for 1 sec then release

13 if you did correctly door lock will cycle once...

if wrong, twice... then do it over...

No, key does not have RFID. Did you have an original remote to compare the FCC ID # to? If not, you may need a different remote.

Did you go into the right mode?:
8 turn ignition from 'lock' to 'on' and back to 'lock'

if you do step #8

*1 time it's for add mode
or
*2 times for rewrite mode

You don't have a broken original? You prolly need the other model.

There are many different remotes... there's the factory... there's the VIP.... there are differences in receiver's... frequency wise... etc.... you need a remote that functions on the frequency of the receiver in that particular Celica.

Really important to have the FCC ID # of the original remote. Otherwise, you'll probably have to go to a Toyo dealer & have him look up the VIN to find out what it needs or... buy remotes till ya find one that works.

In the case of the 2 mentioned in the install section... 1 has an LED, 1 doesn't... and they are on different transmit freqs.

*EDIT: Among several differences.. one is for the factory installed and the other is for the RS3200/VIP system. The latter being the one with the LED.

i was just thinking tho...i cant get it to even enter 'rewrite' or add mode or anything so at this point it cant be the remote problem, can it?

1) Ya sure it has a Toyo factory system?
2) The procedure can be very fussy about the timing of doing things
3) To my knowledge, @ least to MY '02, Celicas did not use transponder keys.

it is a GT-s model. dont they all have keyless entry? it has a red LED on the dash i guess to indicate when the alarm is active but it has never come on. the dealor where we purchased the car said they will install a remote for free since they werent providing one but they never got back to me to setup a date and theyre 1 hr 45 min away; id rather do it myself save some hassle. they suck

A red LED would indicate an alarm system of some type, not just keyless entry. Keyless entry is not listed as a standard feature on '01 GT-S. Even if it was, most dealers upsold to the VIP/RS3200 systems for the GT-S. I find no signs of factory keyless entry in my '02 GT-S.

Where the dealer made this promise to you, why don't you just call them and find out what you need? It will be saving them $, so they oughtta be willing to help.

ive called my salesman a few times here and there over the past few months i never got a call back; nor wanted to drive all the way out there for something i thought would be so simple. the $ id spend in gas and probably dropping it off and picking it up would be twice that of just buying a remote. he told me back when we were buying it that the guy in service says the car should have a remote (maybe they looked it up?) but why cant i get the damn thing to enter 'add mode' thats what i dont understand

The only thing I found that might be wrong is that in the manual these steps are reversed:

6 insert key into ignition

7 close door

I also know that there are some other TSB's out there regarding the programming of remotes... but they aren't on this site, nor have I been able to find full copies.

I suspect you have an aftermarket alarm... not a Toyo.

i cant find any signs of an aftermarket one. usually the horn is rather easy to locate. but theres a red circle LED on the dash at the front almost at the windshield directly in front of the steering column. is this the factory alarm LED location? i still cant get the friggin thing to enter 'add mode' no matter how many times i try it in different order.

that circular LED you're talking about...is it really big or small? Because I think you're talking about the automatic headlight sensor.

LOL, ^^^ yes... that would be the headlight sensor.

99_S281, I suspect that you do not have Keyless entry... or an alarm...
