I'm in the process of completing a rear disc conversion and adding Stoptech slotted rotors, SSBL's and pads back there but I badly need a bbk for the front...
... I'll most likely stick with either TRD or Rotora. Does anyone have experience with either or are they pretty much the same? Also, I've only found these @ retail prices. Are there any good links out there with better deals?

The Rotoras look like a close fit inside your new wheels. Since TRD is a little bigger, be sure to check and see if they will fit before you buy them. I just installed my BBK yesterday and my wheels will not fit over them (not that I was keeping those wheels anyway). Just something you have to make sure of.

That's going to look awesome on your car by the way.
Did you get the rear discs from lowredcruzr?

TRD, Stoptech and Brembo are about 13" and the Rotoras are about 12". I think.
This is the kit I bought from Diesel Dud for $1,275. So, good deals are out there sometimes. Just have to wait and be the first to jump on them when they come up.

Both kits probably do not improve stopping performance as the stock brakes with high performance pads are very good. However, for track, heat dissipating with the larger discs will be better and the better clamping calipers/pistons can take advantage of higher available grip offered by R-compound or slick tires.
Personally, I would go for the Rotora because it's about 50% cheaper than the TRD. Get Stoptech over the TRD since it's probably cheaper and the same product.

My old setup was stock brakes with hawk pads, after switching to my trd bbk, its a significant difference....its like night to day. I also found my accelleration to get slightly better, probably because the aftermarket brakes are lighter than stock.

yeah Eric, I picked up Justin's rear disc setup... I really wanted the TRD bbk for the front but due to size issues (which I didn't think would be a problem for my 19's) I believe I'll be getting the Rotora's

I haven't shopped around lately, so I'm not sure. And I wasn't saying that the TRD kit wouldn't fit, it's just something to check on before you buy. YellowCelica or TSW would be able to tell you that.

Actually no, it has to do with inertia and point mass.

Actually no, it has to do with inertia and point mass.
the fact is even if they are lighter than stockies, which i doubt. the farther a mass is from the spin axis the more force its going to take to spin it. it has to do with inertia and point mass.
you will see a whp loss on a dyno.

arent the rotoras cheaper cause they are a one piece design (hat and disc)?

Dont they all use the same pads though. I thought stoptech uses axxis and axxis is made by rotora. So really Id say save the money and buy rotora.

Only thing about the Rotora is they aren't 2 part (for the Celica at least). Also they are heavier that the TRD, Stoptech, Brembo, etc.

The stock wheels will NOT fit. And not ALL 17" will fit either. Remember to messure the inside clearance of your rims.

damn so spookie you ride 17" winter rims or what ?
damn you winter time !
spookie
10-12-2005, 05:09 AM
No, I run 16" in the winter. I had to get some new rims that had enough clearance that fitted the brakes for winter. Sold my 2 set of stock wheels.

its around 2300 retail, check out tirerack.com, they carry them.
I can't belive you're not considering Endless/Zeal Sultan. They are light, look the best, probably perform the better than the choices and range from $2500 to $3000 directly from them. I'm sure you can find them cheaper.

I'll check them out - thanks bro

i agree, zeal/endless, brembo, stoptech, trd would be your best bet.
sheizen, are those ranked in order of quality? or are you just saying that those are all good brands?

no order, but if it was me, i would buy rotoras for my celica. i cant justify paying $2500 for endless brakes.
