sanded or have primer before you paint? will paint alone be good enough? for those of you who did them by yourself, what did you do and how is or was the paint holding

what about that black piece over your gauges. does that need to be sanded and primer before?

It doesn't have to be, but sanding and priming will prolong the life of the paint. Less chipping and cracking will occur (or none at all). This goes for any type of painting.

oh ok, thanks.. i guess i'll get started on te painting then...

edit: hmm... i know how to remove the panel with the shift boot off, but what about from the A/C up

edit2: what about the ash tray door... is there a way to remove that so i can paint some of the inside?

There are two screws at the very bottom of the A/C panel. Remove the three knobs and the top of the vent slider. There are two more screws under the two big knobs. After that, just pull up from the bottom of the A/C panel, then from around the radio. Once you get the whole thing off, slide the A/C panel sideways (to the left, I think) and detach it from the rest of the panel.

I'm not sure if you want to remove the door on the ash tray. It's held in by two pins that will be hard to remove, and equally hard to put back in.
