For those of you who have painted their mesh grille how did you do it so that the paint doesn't start to flake and look all nasty. Did you just spray paint it? Did you use a clear coat? I'm getting the honeycomb mesh grille and want to paint it black.

well prep the mesh up right. get a good metal primer to that it wont rust after you paint it. primer it really well then paint.. not sure if you should use a clear coat.

Depending on what kind of mesh you use, just have them powdercoated, that's what I'm doing and this place is doing it for me cheap.

Also there is this stuff called POR15 (I think) Blue Bomber always praises it's use, so you know it's a good product. It's tougher then paint. I'd get it but I don't have a automotive spray gun to paint the grills.

I'd get it but I don't have a automotive spray gun to paint the grills. Just use a brush. It's self levelling, so it will smooth out as it dries. :) You'd want POR 15 Hardnose paint. The regular POR 15 isn't UV resistant, and would need a topcoat to prevent fading.

This might be too obvious, but: Why not just buy black mesh? No need to worry about any flaking or whatever.

^ Because a lot of shops that sell colored mesh is often painted, therefore in the long run it will chip and flake. Like I've stated, just have them powdercoated. There are a few vendors off Ebay that sells them powdercoated already too.

Oh so I can't buy it at a local store? Plus its expensive. I was looking for something a little cheaper. This might be too obvious, but: Why not just buy black mesh? No need to worry about any flaking or whatever.

All the mesh I have seen comes in silver/chrome color and plus the kaminari-honeycomb style mesh doesn't come in black.
