View Full Version : Dealership told me forced induction was bad

The person who went on the test drive with me told me that using Nitrous or strapping on a turbo or blower would be bad for the engine because the compression was so high in its stock trim. Is this true because I see a lot of peeps here seem to have them on theirs?

YA THINK! who has alot of turbos?

I think he's talking about nitrous.

Thankyou. I guess not everyone here knows how to read AND comprehend what they are reading.

forced induction will strain any engine.. you cant run alot of boost or nitrous on a high compression engine unless you are tuned very well..

Nitrous != forced induction :)

well, it's covered in the FI forum.

key word THEM! i thought i was reading it and comprehending right. nitrous woulb be it them would be a turbo.

actually i consider nitrous a method of forced induction.. if you are adding anything into your intake path other then air from a filter its a method of f/i :)

I agree with the dealership. Stock N/A motors are not built with low compression like stock Turbo motors. If you use a turbo, you should only run about 3-7 psi of boost. Unless you tear into your motor and run lower compression.

We just switched from 8.5:1 to 8:1 so we can run 25+ psi. A thicker HG also works well at higher boost.

Same thing with Nitrous. It's OK to run it, but if you want to go with a 100 shot, it is not as safe as running a 50 shot on a stock motor. Anything that puts strain on a motor may blow it....

But it's not unsual to see a drop in manifold pressure when nitrous is injected. I thought forced induction meant pressurizing the intake manifold to something beyond ambient pressure? Oh well, it's all academic I guess.

Hey, so we've got a new term! If your'e not "all motor", but your'e not "F.I.", you would be "NAMM"...........

Normally Aspirated Molecularly Modified!

I think NAMM sounds cooler than NOS. NOS is way too FnF'ish.:gap:

hahhaha NAMM :)

So a Turbo with Nitrous is Turbo-mm :D ??

WTF~ Of course~ thats why people buy LC pistons, racing head gaskets, connectin rod.. and etc..

i thought it meant forcing more oxygen to get combusted :) in which case nitrous would count ;)

of course anything that adds power is gonna strain the engine a tit more...even a damn CAI.

Ya, lowering compression is a must with high boost...but the lower the comp the worse the turbo lag...I would just buy a huge ass shipment of octane booster and retard the timing and get a really good management system to run a max of MAYBE 12psi if i was nice and wealthy...that wont have much lag even with large turbo's but it would be reallllly expensive.....and fun too....My guess is a GTS with stock compression running 12 PSI with an awsome tuning job on 100 octane would make over 300hp easily....and loads of torque......damn I wish I was rich and didnt care about blowing up my engine (again I might add, hehe)
