wow, that sounds awesome! sorreh, i dont have any useful info, but i just had to say.
I think the S15 and Skyline are great choices. Skyline has already been done though, by Power House Amuse in Japan. What model Skyline are they thinking of? personally i like the R32.

A AE86 Levin!!! ha something more exotic.... Toyota 2000GT, Nismo 400R...or if you want super rare...go for a TomiKaira R or RR . Or you can bribe HKS into letting them sell you a Zero-R possibly the rarest skyline...i think only 20 were made...its an R32 sold in dealers customized by HKS 500hp i believe...

Your one sketchy ass mofo. :chuckles:
If I was gonna import a car I'd go Silvia, if you want a good car for body kit, I'd pick up a new Altezza. Something along those lines, but it depends on what your "source" is going to pay. If you want to get a R34 GT-R to the USA and get it legalized its a little over $160,000. You could get most other cars over here for 1/8 of that. Or go more off the norm and get a soarer or something

Why bother getting anything that is already over here even if it is RHD? Skyline R34 or Silvia if you want to be exclusive.
As far as the customs issue is you better have seriously deep pockets if you are going to try to bring in a car without a legal importer or being in the military. Before I got the Celica I did the research on importing a JDM 93 Prelude SI. I live minutes from DC and spoke directly to the people in charge at the DOT. The guy with the Sunny GTI, Air540boarder is right, you really need to know what you are doing otherwise just kiss your money goodbye when Customs smashes your car.

ooookay guys...
Well first of all I'm 99.99% positive that theres no way to import a skyline into the U.S. if it hasn't been done already. The reason being, D.O.T. is very strict on allowing gray market vehicles to enter the United States without meeting their standards, which range from smog and emissions, to crash test ratings. The ONLY company that can LEGALLY import a skyline here would be Motorex...BUT they recently went out of business. Wait...I contradict my statement that you can't do it, theres always a way, but it would require you to purchase two, three, or possibly more IDENTICAL skylines and import them here, then you would have to pay for their emissions testing for all of them, then they would crash one of them in their safety test (which you also have to pay for) and they'll totally wreck that car to see if it passes the safety ratings, and if it doesnt or if there's an error, then they have to have another test car to try it on before they can approve its safety rating (why you have to buy more than one skyline). Usually the cars passes the smog testing to some degree and then you have to spend big bucks to make it conform 100% to their standards. After that, the department of motor vehicles is going to give you a hella hard time to register your car, and if you manage to do that, then good luck finding a company that'll insure you. After you've spent like $100,000+ to do all of this, then you can bring over ONE car and even then they may ask you to detune it to make it street legal. See the thing is if you want to import a JDM car here and they sell the car in the states as well, you have to go through a LOT less hassle, but since we got gypped and have no skylines here its just a pain in the butt. There are loopholes and ways around things, like using your car for show only use or racing purposes...but thats a whole nother chapter...sorry if this was boring, I just wanted to let you guys know why a skyline wasn't really feesable to bring over, the reason I know what I do is because I was trying to get one a year or so ago and did a HUGE amount of research...one of my favorite cars... but i guess its staying in Japan, at least for now. I'd recommend a newer Supra or RX7 but then again if they werent produced that year in the USDM then you have to do all that testing stuff again, so beware. Go with a nice 97 Supra TT or a 3000GT VR-4 imo...hope i helped

Ok most of the stuff you said above wasn't true. You can legally import skylines, if they are from september 1990 or earlier. They have to be 15yrs old to be imported. Motorex does all of this but im pretty sure they're not having too much business. They've gone through every hoop and jump through of the US govt. They stay RHD, the rb26's are not detuned. They add in all the costs, usually $40k for brokerage, title, tax, and us conversions. They change the exhaust system and put in US spec gauges. So if you want a skyline you have to go through Motorex. I don't know about anything else. But in 2014 I'm bringing myself over a R34 gt-r. I'll have the $100k for it by then

Umm actually everything Surge21 said was 100% true.
If you read his post he mentioned the only company that's actually paid the cost to legally import, modify to U.S. safety specifications, and then sell Skylines is Motorex. He knows what he's talking about because I was told the same thing from the appropriate officials working for the DOT face to face.

I've met the girlfriend of a guy who headed Motorex and she drove 2 different R34 GT-R's I even got to sit in it (not while moving though).
Anyway I believe the R34's arent OBD-II compliant.

if the skyline has already been crashed tested by motorex before then you wouldnt have a problem bringing another one over seas. that certain car has to be crash tested once and the people after it get a free ride.

No, No it's not that simple the U.S. Gov is not going to let everyone else get a free ride off of someone elses hard work. The following is face to face information straight from the appropriate officials from the main downtown Washington D.C. DOT building. Ahem.
First you have to be an approved DOT crash test facility, crash the cars (four to be exact, hit them from the front, both sides, and rear which is the reason for four) and then modify them to comply with US safety specifications and emissions laws. Skylines and all Jap cars don't have the side impact beams that the U.S. now requires. All things that Motorex has done or will do to the vehicle in question which is why they are the only ones allowed by law to import Skylines.
They were also kind enough to tell me that the real reason for these laws is to prevent the rampant purchasing of low mileage Japanese vehicles by US consumers. As most of you know since space is limited in Japan they have very stiff taxes when it comes to cars. Then main law says something to the effect of if your car has more than 28,000 km on it then it costs you an extra 1,000 bucks U.S. to just keep your car per year.
So they sell them for parts or just junk them out which is why there are so many nice ass cars in Japanese junkyards. So it's not as much for safety as the Gov would know what would happen if like new cars with around 20k were available for practically nothing.
Think about it, it's not just us import freaks what if you could get like a pristine Corolla with 22k for like 2Gs?
Exactly. Kiss the US auto market goodbye, you gotta understand that over in Japan used R32s are like 4,000 on the average in good condition.

Get a the last production model Supra or an R34. Even more interesting a Toyota AE86 Levin.

Why bother with the AE86? It's not that great a car that its worth importing, you could just buy one here for whatever asking price the seller may ridiculously ask and still save money from importing

what iam trying to say is that since motorex has crash tested the r34 already if someone else wants to import one here, they dont need to crash test another 4 cars to import 1 car that has already been crash tested many times before. the data is already in DOT's computer and they dont need another 4 cars to test.
there was a huge article in a magzine about importing cars, i will try to find it and scan it on this thread.

Don't bother, Sheizen if that was your point then we are on the same page but besides the crash testing only Motorex are allowed to legally import Skylines for road use because they have proven that they can convert them to US specs.
Anyway enough about that, to get back on point the only thing worth importing IMO is something that you really can't replicate through conversion or other wise and the only thing now is a Skyline.
C'mon it's the only car that even in fairly crappy condition you go, "Even still it's a Skyline".
