how do you get that nut off? the one with the little indentation in it. do you just force it up a bit and twist it off?

You're talking about the big one on the end of the driveshaft in the wheel hub right? The dent is there to keep the nut from turning during normal operation. FYI, this nut basically holds the wheel on the car, and keeps the bearings aligned so they don't get damaged when the wheel turns. To get it off, use a flat punch about the width of the slot in the axle and hammer it into the slot a bit. This will push the dent out. Then remove the nut. It may help to have a friend stand on the brakes to keep the hub from turning while you're breaking it free. When you put it back together, use a new nut, since the nut should only be staked (dented) once.
While the driveshaft is out, be careful not to put any weight on that wheel. I'm not quite sure why, but the repair manual has a warning about this.

Yeah, what he said. Or, just make sure the axle doesn't spin and blast it off with an impact wrench (probably 30 to 34 mm nut).
The nuts are actually very soft, so they staked portion gives easily.
