Find who told you it makes the rim heavier, then bee-hach slap him all over the place 'cause he's a retard.

Advantages: you can make dull rims look cool in a different color.
Disadvantages: none

End of story.

i dunno the disadvantage might be that you powercoat it in a awkward color like neon pink...because well, i dunno why...atrocious sense of style?

There are no disadvantages to it. It holds up better than paint and wont chip. It actually does add weight but not to a degree that it matters, maybe a few grams :chuckles:. I will be powdercoating mine metalic bronze soon.

Yea seriously. Why do I keep hearing about this adding more weight crap. Any weight it adds is so insignificant that it doesn't matter. Dirt that accumulates on the car from driving around town would make a bigger weight difference than the powdercoated wheels. Simply rediculous.

I don't think it adds more weight. When they powdercoated my rims, they stripped the old color and then powdercoated them to semi-gloss gold. They look pretty good and is holding up well.

Advantages: Durability compared to painting them. You have tons of choices and brands in colors depending on the shop (just like how you can get custom colors in paint) You can have colors matched to what ever you like.

Disadvantages: None really other then shops who charge for a simple job, so I suggest you shop for estimates. Also some shops give great prices on basic colors, but when it comes to colors you want that is not available on their chart/list, then they have to special order it, which usually causes the price to dramatically go up.

Anyone know if these refinishing places can do polished type finishes??...kinda like a polished steel or polished gunmetal finish??

It can cause them to crack prematurely, although whether it will or not depends on what the wheel is made of. The heat used to bake the coating onto the wheel can weaken it.

I just talked to the people at Wheels America in Santa Fe Springs, CA (they moved from stanton). They give you a lifetime warranty on refinished and fixed wheels (painted or powder coated)......129 bucks for just refinishing and painting per wheel, plus and extra 50 for powdercoating......all they need is 24 hours....the guy didn't really sound too excited when I mentioned the powder coating, he said the refinished and repainted wheels look much better........

are you talking about 129+50 per wheel? if so, that's hella expensive. i know better place that has done it for less. i'm talking about $40-50 per wheel including powdercoat.
