My first impression was the tightness of the car. It responds precisely to driver input.

And the acceleration is quick enough for me, but then again I know how to downshift . Of course, it's not blindingly quick, but that's a good thing, because blindingly quick cars are a chore to drive.

yeah. i noticed the handling and braking immediately was spot-on.

then i noticed the car had absolutely no low-end grunt (gts AUTO )

and then that it sounded mean over 6000rpm http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I thought it was VERY comfortable, sporty, looked great, was real nice to drive. Didnt really comment on the Power. Just that it didnt feel as fast with the lack or torque.

My First impression of the car was a very good one. I sat in it and said wow, what a nice feel, then I turned it on and though how quiet the engine was, then I drove it and noticed the suspension was extremely tight, turned great, rode great. Then I noticed how the breaks worked. The breaks on this car are exceptional compared to any other car in out market. The acceleration was also rather quick, especially if it is a 6spd. I like it a lot!

well... back in the days when the new celica first came out (i was first in our town to test drive - jan'00) and i was about to ask the sales guy if he had some extra pants somewhere i could have !!

any how.... i got mine and never looked back

all about the car was extreamly cool and sweet (concidering that i was previously driving an HF model CRX)

When i test drove the GTS that i now own i was just like daaaaamn.... technology! since i was 16 i've been driving an 88 Mustang GT and although it has a LOT of torque, it felt like a dinosaur to drive. The celica was tight, responsive, light, and cornered really well. i was also really impressed with how quickly it stopped. And when i got it on the highway and shifted into 6th... it just felt like the gears went on forever, and i felt like i was driving a car that was ACTUALLY geared to match the engine. and VVTLI scared the hell out of me the first time. all of a sudden the engine roared and BAM i was at the redline. As soon as I hit lift I knew that i had to buy it, but after arguing with the salesman about the chips all over the hood and front end he said he couldnt do anything and i left. next day he called me, the paint was fixed and he had come down 500 bucks. so i bought it.

I love the car! Put it this way, I'm used to driving a much faster car ('94 Supra Turbo) and though I wouldn't consider my GT-S to be as blisteringly fast as my Supra, it is definitely quick! Besides, there isn't another car in the same price range and even beyond that has the kind of poise that the Celica has. I mean, the son-of-a-bitch just eats up corners like nothing! It makes my Supra feel like a f***ing Olds Cutlass! In fact, when driving in and around Seattle I prefer to drive the Celica because it's agile and easily maneuverable - not so in the Supra.

As far as the Celica's power is concerned - it has plenty of it - more than you need. I don't know about the rest of you but where I live and drive, you're lucky to get your car over 40 mph before you run into traffic.

i second that !!

driving in the seattle area is the biggest headache you could ever get while driving

i mean - i don't live up there but i frequently will go that way to have some fun

once i was stuck in traffic during rush hour and it was in a downpour and i was on the 520 bridge just wanting to head to seattle - i about wanted to kill everyone !!!

Seattle is a killer city though (take good with the bad i guess)

I dont know maybe it is just me But I got my Celica GTS and loved everything about it until after I got it past the 1000 break in point and it still was not jumping off the line although I will admit when the vvt-i kicks in it was a kick in the ass in fourth jumped from like 80 to 120 on a slight downhill real quick but I dont know my parents car was a 740i bmw and that v 12 could move especially for a luxury car but I am getting Xs in about three weeks so hopefully all my powre problems will be gone just felt the urge to tell sorry about the length

just wait till they have a turbo for our cars with lower compression pistons pushing 300hp in a 2500 pound car.
if you ever get the turbo will you still drive the supra?:D
you have blistering speed plus the handling and looks to back it up.
12's would be very capable( with traction of course)

oh and i love my gts.
i love the power and i love it.
the car is perfect for me.
what else can i say.

the first time i sat in it was back in 99
it just came out and the only dealership that had it had one silver gts
i went down there and sat in it.
i thought the car was going to cost a lot more than what it actually is.
the car i sat it didn't have a price on it because it was the only one in az at the time(what the salesman said).
the car is gorgeous......
ill shutup now
