New Engine is in...but Machine Shop?

Ok I called Toyota today to get an update on my poor Celica. The new Block is in the car now they said and all they are waiting for now is the Head which is at the Machine Shop. Machine Shop? Now I'm no mechanic but if the block and head is totally new like the Dealer told me then why would it need to be sent off? The guy I talked to had no idea why it was sent..hes just an advisor. Can anyone help shed some light on this? Thanks very much.......

Is it a head, or a *complete*, assembled head? The machine shop could be putting the cams in, shimming things to spec, etc, or even installing the entire valve train.

I believe they said its a complete head..not sure though, I guess I'll have to call them tomarrow and find out.......

A lot of dealers don't do head work so they send them out to shops that do...When I recieved new head for my car, thats what they did...They had to put it all together

i have a question if you get a new head for the car, do you have to break in your car again? I wouldn't think you have to cause when you break in your car, you are actually breaking in the short block right? which contains the piston and what not. What is in the long block? is that the head, the valves, and what else? well my question is that, do you have to break in the long block if you get a new one.

Yes you do have to break in the engine again so the rings and so on can "seat" right. As for the "Long Block", guys correct me if I am wrong, is the whole engine both the block and head together already.

My dealer said it would take up to 3 days to put my new motor block together. They have someone at the site that is certified. You are lucky I've been waiting on mine about a month now..K20A2 is on backorder

I am waiting on valves springs and tranny from Toyota.
