View Full Version : help. Think I have an oil leak...

Its kinda wierd. There is no blue smoke and no oil in the IC piping or anything like that. So oil isn't leaking into the intake piping or getting combusted.

When I start my car I get some whitish smoke untile the car warms, but its way too much for it to be condensation or anything like that and doesn't really smell of coolant.

The coolant level is staying constant, and the oil level seems to be slowly dropping.

My guess is that there is an oil leak between the center housing of the turbo and the downpipe, like a bad seal or something. There also seems to be oil dripping (very slowly, like a drop each time the car is started) near the flange where the turbo meets the downpipe.

At first I thought it was due to a slight kink in the oil return line that worked itself in after driving a bit, but it won't go away even without the kink.

advice... I really don't like all the smoke going out my tailpipe for the first 5 min or so I drive my car?

btw... I use amsoil severe service 0-30 oil, not sure if being high end full synthetic affects burn color or anything like that.

I'd say failing turbo oil seal. Just a matter of time before you go Spy Hunter.

lol, so thats how he did it. Can I get a cabin switch to break the seal when a cop is pulling up behind me.

Also wouldn't mind it if that little truck pulled in from of me v'n fixed the darned thing.

I mean, I was expecting some issues with a used turbo system... but btw 1 destroyed injector, virtually zero fittings/hoses included, a useless deltagate wastegate, and terrible fitment on the IC piping... and now a bad turbo seal... this is getting rediculous

I don't even mind rebuilding it... its getting the damn thing off and on again thats gonna beyond all belief...0

Supposedly only used ~3000 miles too

/ordering rebuild kit

blargh...

So for the trouble of removing the turbo, taking it apart and figuring out if its dynamic or carbon seal, buying a rebuild kit, rebuilding, sending off to get it balanced, and then reinstalling... I think its easier/as cheap to buy a new T3/T4

which seems dumb... Word around the campfire is that the GT28RS will bolt onto the same spot, just need a slightly smaller set of banjo bolts...

anyone else know if this is true or have a feel if the GT28RS is worth the extra cash?

How fast does it spool on the celi GT?

Go with the GT28RS....it's wicked fast compared to your T3/T4. You can't beat double BB - makes everything else pale in comparison (as well it should, since anything else is old technology).

The spool will be a tad slower than a GT28R though.

I would have no prob with the GT28R, except you can't get it with the T3 housing so I can just bolt it onto my current DP & manifold.

can you?

thats the RS. The gt28rs is available in both forms. THe GT28R seems to be only avaiable in the T28 style.

edit: screw the budget, I got the gt28rs... I just hope it actually bolts on there.

All he had to do was install an ATR turbo kit on there. Did the trick.

Just got off the phone with the guy who sold me the kit and turbo-performance.

Apparently the guy spent 260 bucks to have the thing 'rebuilt' by turbo-performance before sending it off to me,on top of turbo-performance's claim that it was already in 'perfect condition'

Don't know who or what to believe, but its going back to TP to get rebuilt again (for free, as it was supposed to be rebuilt already),and then its gonna find itself on ebay...

Thanks guys, just wish the Hass kit had been around when I started all this

Believe the guy, Turbo-Performance is know to lie and there are bunch of people they lied to. Main reason I did not go with their kit and I am glad to say I made a wise decision.
