I have read several times that there is a TSB for the replacement of the Belt Tensioner in the 2000+ GTS. After stopping by my local Toyota Dealership and setting an appointment to get this looked at because the sound is just as annoying as fingernails on a chalkboard. They told me that it did not actually fix the problem to replace the tensioner, They just kept coming back due to premature belt ware. So a couple of ?'s for the celica gods here at NC.org:

1. Does anyone have or know where to get a copy of this TSB?

2. Has anyone heard this line from any other Toyota Dealer (I went to Toyota Naperville here in IL)?

3. If you have had this replaced, has the problem re-emerged or been solved?

Thanks for your replies

1. Look in the TSB forum on this board

2. Nope I didn't get that line from my dealer, they just replaced the tensioner and belt as soon as they heard it

3. Haven't had a problem since

I never did see the TSB for the Celica. Someone had the number and was going to get a scan of it....it might be in the TSB forum now. Regardless, there is a TSB for the Corolla with the same engine to replace the same part, so there is a TSB for it.

You have to remember a TSB is not a recall....they don't have to fix it. This only helps the dealers when fixing the problem.

I've never heard anyone say anything about premature belt wear. If you actually have the tensioner problem (rock tumbler sound, belt squeaking), the only way to fix it is to replace the tensioner. The belt has NOTHING to do with the tensioner lossing it's ability to put the proper tension in the belt.

No problems since replacing the tensioner myself.

My car is at the dealer right now as we speak getting the Belt Tensioner replaced. They actually ordered 4 new parts for it.

I brought it in, told them I had a belt tensioner noise when its wet. Even thought they didn't hear it because it was a dry sunny day, they went ahead and looked up the TSB, ordered the parts without any hassle.

If you're in the area of Greenwich Toyota in CT, get your warranty work done there. I got a free ride back to work and they absolutely loved my car and mods. Very good customer service and no BS.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will have to wait and see what they do. If they just replace the belt will it continue to squeel? If they don't replace it and it starts up again I will just have to go to a different dealership. Anyone know one with a Friendly service dept. in Chicago area?
