Has anyone test driven the new Nissan Altima. I need a 4-door, and the specs look promising. The V6 is puttin' out 240hp at the crank and it comes in 5 sp. manual. I'm not sure what the weight is, but surely this thing can run 14's. Anybody know?

Why do u want timeslips for a midsize family sedan? U plan on racing it? Just get a camry and modify it! :) Actually, get the is300. I know i would. They come with a 5spd

Reason #1 - Being an engineer for Delphi, I require high-performance.

Reason #2 - I have 7 kids.

I heard it can run low 14's. Supposedly it's pretty quick

They say it only feels like a bee sting. But still, just thinkin' about a bee stinging me there makes me wince.

The reveiws I've seen say great engine, ****ty interior quality, bad torque steer, soft, mushy suspension. Some magazine this month has a mid-size sedan comparison, R&T I think, maybe Motor Trend. The Maxima has more power, and isn't much bigger. G35 Sedan would be nice. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend.

ROTFLMAO! :werd:

On another note, I test drove the Altima and then the Maxima on one night. The Altima was one hella' car for the money. It felt more "sporty" than the Maxima (as much as a family sedan can I guess). Plus, it has a real nice exhaust note. On the other hand, the interior plastic looks and feels rather cheap. But, for the money, I think it's a great car. If you have the $$$$, the Maxima might not be a bad step up...I still love that car...rides like a dream and has plenty of power. Just make sure you get the Altima with the V6...I found the 4cyl to be rather doggish.

Well damn, w/ 7 kids, you might as well get the honda odyssey w/ the wings west body kit. It looks TIGHT MAAAN! I think they got hella mods for that ride up in japan. You could get it to be fast. You wouldn't fit all 7 in the altima anyways. :)

i like everything about the altima except the interior is really cheap looking but i think the speed, torque, exterior overcomes it. If it was out the same time i bought my celica, i probably would of bought that! OH well, there are always new toys:)

what other cars are you looking at? Maybe a WRX wagon would fit your needs, or a IS300 Sportcross. If you still want a sedan a G35 would be nice, or the new A4 with a CVT.

I'm not gettin' no minivan, dude! We've already got a Suburban for when we all go somewhere. I need something for my daily driver. I love my GT-S (and so do my kids when I drop 'em off at school!) but gettin' them in and out of the back seat is a real pain.
When you have seven kids, it's very rare that ALL of you go somewhere together at the same time. Usually it's one or two to football practice, another one to cheerleading practice - so a car that seats four is fine. I test drove the WRX before I got my Celi, and I wasn't that impressed, but it could have been the two big fat salesmen in the back seat that wanted to go along for the drive that made it seem so sluggish. The Altima seems like the best bang for the buck I've seen so far.

From what I've heard, those A4's are awesome, but they're a little out of my price range. So is a G35. I'm afraid I would be dissapointed with an IS300 - wouldn't be any increase in performance over my GT-S. May still go with a REX, but from what I've seen, the Altima is a better buy. I do like the new Jetta, but I'm doubtful that the 1.8T can put out much more horses than the 180 it puts out in stock trim. I can buy a car from GM, Ford, Jag and Volvo for the invoice price at any dealership since I work for Delphi, but I can't find anything they make that's in my price\performance range. The back seat in a new Z28 is rather roomy, but I haven't seen a 4-door on the lot yet. :) And after driving my Celi, Camaros and Mustangs seem to handle like, well, CRAP! If it's gonna be a 2-door, it had better handle like it's on rails. I could also go for the new Neon SRT-4, (yes, a Neon!) but, from what I've heard, it will be in extremely limited production, if at all.

I hat to say it, but you can get a lot more than 180 out of the 1.8T

I think it's not unreasonable to get about 220-230 out of one with bolt ons and a chip....

I think we talked once before a couple years ago. When were you at TTF?

yea the 1.8T can be boosted nicely. You can get them chipped. If your looking at a VW why not a Jetta Wagon? Or if you can get Volvos cheap try the V40 or S40 (it kind of lcaks power, but has a turbo so you could try to up the boost) or a V70 or S80? I also vaguley recall that they may make a Jaguar X-type Wagon, so that would be rely nice. What would also be very nice is if you could wait for the new Mazda 6. The car looks soooooo nice in every form: 4 door, 5 door, and wagon.

the 1.8T is an awesome engine! Just chipped with the stock kkk03 turbo it's good for a little over 200hp and a very good amount of torque. With a kkk04 turbo it's good for 230-250hp. APR just same out with what they call a "stage 3" turbo kit for most of the cars that use the 1.8T engine. It costs $4000 and put the car just under 300hp. Any of those cars would fly with 300hp. If u wanna pay a little more u can get a front mount ic and make a little over 300 hp (310 or 320 i think). Audi engineers say the engine is good for almost 400hp without doing internal work. I'm considering getting one of the new 1.8T A4s. They look pretty nice, really nice inside and with 300hp (after upgrading it) it would be awesome to drive.

Here's my Altima: 2k2 Altima @ the track (http://www.altimas.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35455)

It's an Auto 3.5SE. Only mods are a WAI.

The 5speed will definitely be in the mid 14's
