View Full Version : Bandwidth Q for admins

I remember larry saying that the addition of the "quick reply" box at the bottom of posts would save on the loading of an additional page just to reply. Cool feature, that many users including myself now use regularly.

Here's my question: After you post a response it takes you back to the thread. Then 99% of the time I hit the "GO" button that appears at the botom of the page to take me back to the forum so I can continue reading and posting in other threads. Could we skip the step of going back to re-read the thread to save on loading another page? And have it kick you directly back to the last forum that you were browsing? For those worried about grammar, spelling and links/pics appearing they would then have to go back in. Many replies are in text only and we all know how bad the spelling is any way.

Just my $0.02.

Opinions anyone? Admins, will it save us any? Is it possible with the software?

i actually thought of this idea before as its not a bad idea, but unfortunately ALOT of people would rather see it the way it is.. wheer it tkaes you back to the curren post instead..

could you do something similar to spyderchat where it automatically takes you back to the thread, but it gives you times to choose to go to the forum instead before it takes you to the thread.... did that make sense?

it makes sense but thats custom coding.. and not something I want to do right now.. with the site running correctly the last thing I want to do is make a change that will screw things up

I really didn't understand Pribilof. Maybe this is his Q rephrased.

Is it a lot of code to have a feature like this added to the User CP? Where we could individually check/uncheck a box if we wanted to be sent back to the post or to the forum. Similar to the option of being emailed when someone responds to your posts or allowing your email or PM info to be displayed.

I don't know anything about software or its coding. The one C+ class I was required to take in college didn't sink in.
thanks for your time,
Brad

ps- Its been running great lately *knocks on wood*, it slowed down a bit yesterday afternoon when there were a lot of users but not bad enough to make me pull my hair out.

Thanks for you time and effort. I hope I wasn't the cause of the problems earlier today. ;)
