I want a firmer suspension then what I got right now...I find that my tein stechs + tokico blue combo to be too soft/bouncy...so I was wondering what you guys think I should go for. I got a factory kit + front lip on my car with only about a shoe clearance on the front, so I don't wanna go lower then the Tein springs. Should I go with Koni Yellows+my teins or get the Tein Basic Coilovers? Are there any ride quality differences between the two setup?

Tein basic are going to be a linear suspension travel I believe compared to the progressive type of suspension travel that the s-techs have. I have always prefered springs & struts/shocks over coilovers, just because the ride seems to be smoother. Coilovers tend to give cars more of a go-kart feel which is great, but it all depends on what you are looking for. Are you wanting to bring the car to the track or do you want a smooth daily driver?
I say Koni Yellows + Teins

Yeah I also have the Tein Basic as a choice, and I could afford. But I'm scared it will be too harsh. I want that firm comfortable ride, nothing harsh or bone jawring, which is what I think the TEIN basic would give, although its height adjustable.

I have tein basics and have had them for about 6 months. The ride is great, but very stiff when they are lowered 2+... which is what i have them at right now... i really can't complain, but i do know that when i rode in my friends 00 Si with sprint springs and tokico blues the ride was bouncy as hell.. .so that is why i got my coilovers.. also, when you adjust them to where they are not so low then the ride is smoother, but i just didn't like my car sittn so high.... and the fact that struts will wear down faster than coilovers is another pro for coilovers

such a hard decision...going to get some AGX this winter to go with the S-techs...I think I will be very happy if AGX ride as nice as everyone says they will.

lilcoop_69 thanks for letting me know about the Tein Basics... I wanted something with adjustment for stiffness more then adjustment for ride height, so I'm just gonna get the Konis. I wish I had enough money I would have gotten the Adjustable Teins...SS I think there called. But anyways, I'll also post my opinion of the Konis when they're installed.

nice, ... but yeah, i got mine from a member here on the board back in may. I wanted to get some others though that would work with the EFDC, but i needed something asap so i got these. I'm not disappointed at all with these since they ride really great and i can still adjust the height real easy...... but with anything aftermarket, it's going to be a little different... but bang for the buck, you can't beat the teins.. good luck with the konis though... ill be upgrading soon this spring and will need some ideas.... :eatpop: :gap:

the prob with the TEIN basic is they are not adjustables. They are afordable tho! I am thinking konis with Stech springs or TEIN adjustable coilovers. Those TEINs are very expensive tho compare to the fisrt option. Is it worth it? I pretty much dont care to much about ride "quality" and comfort. The drop wont exceed 1.5 inches on my car too .. except for the show off, there's no point in going lower than that ..

do you have a set of teins??????? :wtf:.... well, i do and they are adjustable.. fully adjustable and not THAT expensive either compared to paying 300+ for the struts and another 130+ for the springs and they won't last half as long... i got my teins for $600 practically new from a guy here on the site and they are still takiing beatings dailey on these horrible hawaii roads for about 8 months now.... just make sure to do your research before you state your opinion.... as far as lowering the car below 1.5, it's nice still but i have mine right at 2 and i don't have any probs at all or bad tire wear...

^^Im with abilko on that^^
Tein Basics= height adjustment only..
Tein SS = Height adjustment+16 levels of damping force adjustment (compression and rebound together)
I have the Tein SS on my 00' GTS and I'm very pleased with them! :D

Well for a guy who has TEINs and have almost 2000 posts, your pretty much missinformed man! TEIN basics are only height adjustable (which I dont really care honestly) but are not adjustable on the dampening like stated. The most important adjustment fo the balance of the car. The least you can do is verify your infos before you ask people to do researchs bud ..
Also, I never meant TEINs cannot handle 2 + inches drop. If you read some of my post, you should know I am all about performance. So, basically, more than 1 1/2 inch drop is not helping you in the curves but probably hurts performance as well. A suspension Needs some travel to work properly. More than 2 inches of drop is for look only (for those who like it) and hurts performance. It is therefore ricer to me. I dont want to throw flames at anybody but boards are there to tell your opinion also .. so here was mine!

For the most part I agree with you on this, but, the test data that everyone on here holds to be gospel on the Hotchkis TVS3 Coilover kit was done with a 2.5" drop all around.

I think there was a misunderstanding between lilcoop69 & danGTS, cause reading back now dan was just saying that they are not stiffness adjustable, but lilcoop69 thought he meant ride height adjustable. Anyways, tein basics are only height adjustable for the record. ;)
Anyways, after riding in someone else's car with the Tokico HPs, the ride of mine was totally fine, it was more on the stock side type of comfort, with a tad firmer...so there was nothing really wrong with my setup originally...i just wanted something more stiffer and holds the car better overall in hard turns. Now that I got my Koni Yellows, I'm 100% happy with them. Holds the car great, can crank highspeed 90degree turns like nothing...and off ramps are way fun, feel like ur on rails. I'd highly recommend it DanGTS...since u got such nice mods on ur car and its damn fast.
