A local dealer is selling a new 2005 Honda S2000 for $30,500. This deal is only good for a day or two, or till the car is sold. Is this a good buy given that the 2006 model is almost here? Any thoughts.

Its a good price but not a great price. Very likely the dealership has already received some closeout dealer cash and can go lower than that price.

You could get it for $29,500.

I was just checking to see if anyone knew a good price for a new 2005 S2000. The invoice for this car is around $29,800 and a sticker price of $34,000. The quote is $30,500 with 5.75% interest rate for 6 years. And I don't buy car for its street racing performance. If I just want a fast car, I would not have bought my current Celica GTS. Also, I am not rich. I earn my income like most people - a pay check, just a bit more.

Thanks for both your negative and positive comments.

If you want an S2000, get a used one. There are plenty of low mileage S2000's you can get in the low $20k range. And you don't want a 6 year loan.. ouch

like FriedRice said... its absolutely fun driving that thing. My friend got his '03 S2000 for $25k. Pretty decent price and condition, considering he bought it from one of those cheap @ss vietnamese used car dealerships.

Yes s2000's are great cars, i would've probably gotten one over my celica, but i could a pass up a 2001 celica GTS with 29k on it for 12,980? little did i know the dude was gonna curb the rims and trash the tranny before i finally got it.

haha, omg, that has to be one of the dumbest thing ive heard. handles pretty well, top end is crazy, low end is crazy, one of the best car i have ever driven in my life if not best. This car takes off fast off the line..most of you would think it would just sit there and burn out because of the torque, but it doesnt'. Great car and you get good hp per dollar. Please don't make ignorant remarks like that again.

are you crazy?

dohc 7000 rpm V8 has no top end?

man, to me, Cobras (the N/A version at least) feel gutless compared to a nice LS1 - now THAT is torque. The Cobra is a race motor, hand built, meant to be used in the high revs.

I've never driven a supercharged one but I'd imagine it has both ridiculous low end and crazy top end.

Handling on the Cobra is great - the only thing I don't like about it is the shifter - its actually a punishment to drive that car with that stick, so I didn't buy one - otherwise I would have.

OK regarding S2000
there's a few around here under $20,000 in decent shape.

Its a fun as hell car, look elsewhere if you're looking for real ultimate power, but if you want a good looking, quick, agile RWD roadster, its awesome - I'll admit, I like the Miata's chassis a bit more, but the engine in the S2000 is so much fun.

Only drawback is some reliability issues. I was lamenting to my Mazda tech about how MY car was hellish and I shoulda got an S2000 - he told me he used to work for Honda, and they were just as bad.
