Umm, well to me, I always thought it looked a little like a FRIGGING T.
T is for Toyota, and that good enough for me.

Toyota, Toyota, Toyota starts with T!

I second that. Mazda has the M like shape, honda has the H, so i always thought the toyota sign was a T. Easy enough... or am i wrong? :O

I knew it was a T but don't know why they used that emblem to symbolize the T. Looks like 3 rings.

Taurus head is right - it's supposed to stylize the star constellation of the bull (=taurus). "Toyo" means "East" (geographical) in japanese, and the taurus constellation is mostly observed in the eastern sky (and Japan is of course considered to be in the East).
Subuaru's emblem contains the orion constallation (I think), and there's a couple more, but I forgot...

The emblem actually spells TOYOTA....take a close look at it and you can make out all the letters.....
