What is lift?

Hi im am new to the celica scene, and was wondering what lift is? From what i have read so far isnt it pretty much its sort of power band?

if you're used to torqueless 4 cylinders it feels like a nice shove and it sounds great, especially with intake and exhaust

if you've driven a turbo car before it feels like a little nudge compared to when boost kicks in.
