Just a quick question...but when you go down the 1/4 mile track in a GT-S...do hit the 1/4 in 3rd gear or u need 4th gear? Also for 0-60, that can be done in 2nd gear right?...no need to use 3rd? Can someone fill me in on that.

You should definately need at least 4th in the quarter mile, and 2nd gear ends right around 60, so depending on what type of wheels you have on you may need to hit 3rd.

It also depends on where you shift. If you can go to 8200, then you should be able to get to 60 in 2nd.

I have never once hit 4th gear doing the 1/4 mile and ive ran my car in the races a bunch of times. I shift at 8300 rpm and end in 3rd at about 8000 rpm when I finish.

might be because I run my car in vegas which is pretty high above sea level.

0-60 should be about the end of 2nd gear (I think 2nd gear ends at 62).
1/4 mile I have always ended up in 4th gear. Unless you trap at like 80, you should end up in 4th gear

:werd:

I can get about 63mph i believe out of 2nd gear... and yes i hit 4th right at the very end...

what about us super fast auto GTS :chuckles:
I would be embarassed to run the 1/4 mile, I think people would be laughing. But I would guess an auto would still be in second on the 60 and third at the 1/4.

Autos have 4 gears instead of 6. I don't know the definitive answer, but I would think autos would end up in 3rd in the 1/4. Well, that would be assuming they trap the same speed, which they don't. And I'm too lazy to look up trap speeds for an auto GT-S and then find out what gear they would be in. Someone else can do all that

Auto GTS's are slower in the 1/4 than auto GT's LOL...i feel sorry for them.

Auto GT-S's are good for bracket racing though. There times will always be almost the same because they are just putting their foot down to drive. :gap:

For drag I think the auto-gts might suffer, but track racing, the highend should help alot.

Just wondering, what kinda times you guys have seen at the track in the 1/4 mile. I'll be running this spring, so just wanna know what kinda times to expect.

Not always true. Alot of people say that the auto GT is faster then the auto GTS, but I have ran against two different auto GT, and they were both much slower. Once you hit 1st gear lift you catch up most if not all of what you lost off the line, and 2nd gear lift you pull ahead for good (in a 1/4 mile i don't know how one could lose). Some auto GTS might be slower because of when the lift engages and when the rev limiter engages. My 2000 seems to lift just right after 6000, and my rev limiter doesn't kick in till 8200rpms (I have read about people saying that their 00 & 01 auto's are limited to 7800rpms).

My GTS intake and exhaust, (body kit & 18" wheels, a little bit extra weight).
vs.
One was a stock body GT with an intake (15"wheels).
vs.
The other one was a completely stock GT with the newest action package (not that much heavier then stock body, 15"wheels).

both outcomes were the same, the auto GT is a very slow car, even slower then my auto GTS.
